Anyone who thinks this team is in a 'mess' doesn't understand the current landscape.
There are 3 teams that can win, that's it. 5 more or good, the rest are in our position or worse.
That is absolutely correct. All you hear from other blogs is how we have no direction. The fact that people simply ignore how this landscape came to be is mind boggling, especially with those who loved Kobe. I have been saying for awhile that I believe the front office can use a fresh start and I have questioned Mitch Kupchak's motivation, especially after his daughter died, BUT the reason for the fresh start is not the result of incompetence but just to change things up. That's what sports franchises do when they get into a funk. Sometimes it's the manager or head coach, sometimes it's the front office, sometimes it's both.
As for the rumors of Rob Pelinka becoming the next GM, that excites me. He's understands the cap, has relationships all over the league, is only 47 and knows how to negotiate. I do think that he will need help evaluating talent, (something I hope Magic stays clear of for the most part, but I doubt it), so we'll see. Bob Myers was an agent with Arn Tellum before he was elevated to GM after a very brief Assistant GM stint at Golden State. Of course, he does have Jerry West to lean on, which is a tremendous advantage. This will be interesting to say the least.
