MLB - the 7th Inning Stretch

Heading into today's games, as of July 21st the Cubs now have a little breathing room in the NL Central.
NL Central standings
Cubs 54-44
Brewers 52-48 (3 back)
Cards 50-47 (3.5 back)
-Cubs are 7-1 since the all-star break.

For shits and giggles I was looking up different players and their career's. Here is what Kris Bryant's resume is so far:
Kris Bryant (2015-2019 seasons)
*World Series Champion = 2016
*1 x NL MVP = 2016
*1 x winner of the NL Hank Aaron Award = 2015
*NL Rookie of the Year = 2015
*3 x NL All-Star = 2015, 2016, 2019
*Lifetime Batting Avg of .287
*Only 1 of 12 players in the history of baseball to hit a HR in 3 consecutive innings. He did it in 2019 at Washington.

I will put his resume up against anyone's. He has done all of this in 4.5 years. Comparing him to the other great players like - Mike Trout, Cody Bellinger, Aaron Judge, Bryce Harper and his laughable contract, and Christian Yelich, Bryant has a ring and none of them do. Bryant just does his job and stays out of the spotlight while those guys get all the attention from the media. Here is another interesting fact, I bet you guys did not know that Derek Jeter never won a AL MVP. That is pretty stunning, Bryant also has an NL MVP already.

Go Cubs!

Great observation, and a great example of how the ESPN-fueled star machine leaves a lot of players laboring in the shadows. Maybe it's better for Bryant that way - staying humble and centered and not being overly hounded by the media monster 24/7. He's a team guy. My Dodgers have a team full of team guys so I hope we can put a few more in Kris Bryant's league soon. Is this enough so far to get him in Cooperstown?

Thanks Rev, yeah he gets so overlooked but it is better that way IMO. Bryant will have to play 6 or 7 more years like he has to get to Cooperstown. He hasn't played long enough but in 5 seasons he has accomplished pretty much what any player would want looking at that resume. Baseball is about numbers too so he has a ways to go for Cooperstown.

As of July 25th, the NL Central standings look like this:
Cubs 55-47
Cards 54-47 (.5 back)
Brewers 54-50 (2 back)
Reds 46-54 (8 back)
Pirates 46-55 (8.5 back)

-Cubs still hold the lead in the NL Central but it is narrow over the Cards. The Cards have been scorching hot of late lol. Kris Bryant left the Giants game yesterday after homering in the win with knee soreness. I have been hearing and reading it isn't anything real serious. I hope it isn't, that would hurt the Cubs bigtime if he has to sit for a while. He is batting .300 with 21 HR's! He has played in 97 of 102 games this season being very durable.

-Looks like it is time for the Pirates and Reds to sell :roflmao: , their seasons are pretty much over. I wonder if the Cubs, Cards, or Brewers try to trade for anyone major by the deadline?

How exciting are my New York Yankees! Best record in baseball despite a season that has featured a slew of injuries. Stanton, Severino, Betances, Bird, Maybin, Sanchez and Andujar (out for the season) are still shelved, yet they just keep rolling. Great bullpen, defense and slugging doesn't hurt though. The starting pitching is still meh and I think the Dodgers are the best team in baseball and the Astros set up for a better playoff run, although the Yankees have handled them thus far this season.

You guys are loaded and so are the Astros and Dodgers. To me the Twins are like last years Brewers and 2016 Indians, teasingly great but in the end they will choke IMO. Regarding my Cubs, I just hope we win our division. Get in and anything can happen. A Dodgers vs Yankees World Series could very well happen, I would be cool with that and would watch. I am pretty content we finally won a WS in 2016, I want more but as of now we aren't near what the Astros, Dodgers, and Yankees are in 2019.

I am watching the Yankees at Red Sox game. Yankees pitching looks like doo doo. I would be worried about the Astros come post season. Final 4 will be Dodgers vs Cubs and Yankees vs Astros is my call. Cards in the NL are cute but I think the Cubs will still find a way to beat them or the Braves or the Brewers when it counts.

Yeah, the starting pitching has been as bad as it gets for the past 5 games, but somehow they have managed to win 2 of those games and they still have the best record in baseball by a few percentage points over the Dodgers and Houston. Aaron Boone has pulled off a remarkable managing job this season. The bullpen is stellar, but they absolutely need to pry an ace from someone by the trade deadline (or thereafter) and also hope that Severino can come back 100% by no later than mid-September. Also, it is the dog days of summer, not only for the NBA, but these guys go through lulls right about now. I ain't sweatin'.

That is baseball as you know. I remember a game earlier this season when the Cubs played the Reds at Wrigley. Cubs had Jon Lester on the mound so I went to go get something to eat for the hell of it and when I got home it was 6-0 Reds in the 3rd :roflmao:

Heading into July 29th, standings in the NL Central are:

Cubs 56-49
Cards 56-49
Brewers 56-51 (1 back)
Reds 48-55 (7 back)
Pirates 46-59 (10 back)

Cubs spanked the Brewers today 11-4. Brewers luck ran out today after we gave away 2 games. Cards are no match for the Astros today. We are tied for 1st in the NL Central as the stretch run is here. Cubs play at Cards starting Tuesday in a huge 3 game series, bring it on and let the games begin.

OUCH 3peat -- Yu Darvish throws two straight wild pitches for the first time in his career then gives up a HR to let the Cards take the NL Central lead. Cubs have THE WORST road record in the entire NL, if you can believe that. Worse than any of the bottom feeders. That will be their undoing in the post-season if they can make it.

Meanwhile the Swingin' A's have quietly put together a fantastic run in the competitive AL and are putting themselves in a great position to grab a Wild Card spot. Across the Bay, the lowly Giants have also gone on a nice run -- not nearly enough to threaten the Dodgers or the Wild Card, but it has put the spotlight on them as today's trade deadline sets up a probable Madison Bumgardner trade.

Speaking of my Dodgers, we again became the first to another "x10" milestone in wins, edging out the Astros as first to 70 wins. Our pace has slowed a bit but we're deep and can still play .650/.700 ball while getting our stars some rest headed into the dog days. For any teams on the bubble, now is the time to get it together and bring the A-game every day.

(Oh and look at this Puig jackass - the Reds quickly got sick of his bullshit and sent him to Cleveland but he's still looking at a suspension for his part in the brawls. So glad the Dodgers got him out of LA)

Yeah we stink on the road this season. I can't figure out what is going on with that. We are still great at home. I never liked the Yu signing to begin with, he isn't an ace or even a #2. Signing him and letting Jake walk was one of the few mistakes Theo has made but it was costly. We gave away 2 games at Milwaukee and gave away last nights game at St Louis. We can't close on the road and that is a major concern heading into August.

Greinke is in his 16th season . . he's just a maybe middle bolster to the Astro's rotation . . he suffers from depression and social anxiety disorder . . he's been injured and unfocused his entire career . . he played his best baseball with the Dodgers, who made him very rich and gave him his only significant post-season experience.

Don't expect much.

He's 131-53 in the NL (9 seasons)

He's 66-69 in the AL (8 seasons)
