That CRAZY Yankees/Red Sox game in London!!! Gave the Brits quite a show - the first inning lasted almost an hour and it's the first time both starting pitchers were pulled in the first inning since 1989.

June is over. It is a new season for me, here comes big bad July and the all-star break. Half the season is over and July is here :xclaphands:. Here are the NL Central standings:

Cubs 45-39
Brewers 45-39
Cards 41-41 (3 back)
Pirates 39-43 (5 back)
Reds 38-43 (5.5 back)

I guess I will take it. 3 months of baseball down the pipes. Cubs tied for 1st in their division. These records aren't impressive but these teams are beating up on each other. All these teams are good so it's cute.

Cubs are now tied again with the Brewers for 1st place in the NL Central. Cubs win today over the Pirates and Brewers lose to the Reds. The whole division is just beating each other up basically.

NL Central standings as of July 4th
Cubs 46-42
Brewers 46-42
Cards 43-42 (1.5 back)
Pirates 42-44 (3 back)
Reds 41-44 (3.5 back)

This is a pretty good sample size as the all-star break will be here after Sunday. The worst team in the division is 41-44 (Reds) and they are actually loaded with talent. I will take it for now. As of July 4th it is like the season starts tomorrow :roflmao: as the Cubs and Brewers have the same record.

We are at the all-star break brethren, no Cubs games until Friday, July 12th. Here are the division leaders in each division:

AL East = Yankees 57-31 (1 seed)
AL West = Astros 57-33 (2 seed)
AL Central = Twins 56-33 (3 seed)

NL West = Dodgers 60-32 (1 seed)
NL East = Braves 54-37 (2 seed)
NL Central = Cubs 47-43 (3 seed)

Thoughts?

Getting in is what matters. Once you're in, the teams with great starting pitching have historically thrived in the playoffs. While the Yankees have a very deep bullpen, the starters - while good - are not GREAT. They need to trade for Madison Bumgarner. That we give us the Yankees - Dodgers World Series Many people, including myself, are craving. I don't see another team coming out of the NL. The Astros are a problem in the AL, but the Yankees have handled them well this season. That doesn't necessarily translate into a 7 game series in the playoffs though.

Yeah I hate to say it but right now I do not believe the Cubs could beat the Dodgers in a 7 game series. They could very well beat us 4-1 or so that is how great they have been this season. It is funny you bring up Bumgarner because Cubs fans want him badly but because of Darvish's terrible contract it is a pipe dream for Chicago. I doubt Theo wants to take on another huge contract. I have to admit a Dodgers/Yankees WS would be a classic. The Astros could spoil that though.

I LOVE IT! And guess who suddenly owns the best record in baseball? Is it possible that the stars are starting to align again? Stay tuned!

I take it that this a Nuggz creation and not something I can purchase somewhere?

Great way to start the 2nd half of the season off. Cubs beat the Pirates 4-3 and everyone else in the division lost. Cubs are now 48-43 and 1.5 games ahead of the 47-45 Brewers. I am going to start calling the NL Central 'the black and blue division' :roflmao: . These teams are talented and just beat up on each other. Kris Bryant has had a great bounce back season after injuring his shoulder last season. He now has 18 HR's after he hit 1 last night and is batting .297. Craig Kimbrel saved another game last night as well. He was a great pickup by Theo. Winning the division would be a hell of way to end the decade. As of now the Cubs have the 2nd most total wins over the last 5 seasons (2015-2019) only behind the Dodgers. Cubs also won the WS in 2016. It would be nice if they won the NL Central for the 3rd time in the last 5 seasons. The Cubs won the NL Central in 2016, 2017, and hopefully win it in 2019. Getting that 2nd or 3rd seed is critical in the NL because you avoid the Dodgers until the NLCS.

If the Cubs make the playoffs this season, they will join only the Dodgers and Cards to do so 5 seasons in a row this decade. Cubs would've done it from 2015-2019, Cards did it from 2011-2015, Dodgers have done it from 2013-2018 which is 6 in a row. Dodgers will make it 7 in a row in 2019. That is elite company.

Cubs sweep the Pirates. NL Central standings look like this as of July 14th:

Cubs 50-43
Brewers 48-46 (2.5 back)
Cards 46-45 (3 back)
Pirates 44-48 (5.5 back)
Reds 42-48 (6.5 back)

-Cubs know this is the time to kick butt. I love it. Still a ways to go but we are finally rolling now. Bryant is healthy, Rizzo is just bad ass, Baez is bad ass, and Lester + Hendricks pitching wise has to carry us until Hamels gets back. Kimbrel is the man out of the bullpen. Best relief pitcher we have had since Chapman.

I've been keeping baseball on the back burner for a few weeks as all the Laker news has sort of taken precedence. I see the damn Yankees are getting hotter . . I'm going to try to make it to the Sunday game in LA on August 25th -- the last of a 3-game set when the Yanks come to town. Gonna be a lot of old rivalry rekindled that weekend.
