MLB - the 7th Inning Stretch

Dodgers are just a machine right now. 8.5 game lead and it's not even June. The Yanks and Rays are hot, Houston's a machine too but uh oh look at those Oakland A's making a push! The Wild Card race starts now for a lot of teams whose only hope is to come in a close second.

June is here now and the Cubs still have the NL Central lead with a record of 31-24. They got through April and May and hold their division lead. I will take it. Cubs need to trade for a legit closer, just do it Theo. The Bullpen has cost the Cubs 4 or 5 wins this year.

Cubs with a much needed win today over Mike Trout and the Angels 8-1. Cubs fell into 2nd place over the weekend in the NL Central but with the win today they are only 1 game behind the Brewers.

As of June 3rd the NL Central Standings look like this:
Brewers 34-26
Cubs 32-26 (only 1 back)
Cards 30-28 (3 back)
Pirates 28-30 (5 back)
Reds 27-32 (6.5 back)

The Cubs currently hold the 1st W.Card spot in the NL so it is all good. IMO the Cubs are in the toughest division in baseball so winning the division is not a given. The Brewers and Cards both are very good. I am surprised the Cards have struggled as much as they have at 30-28. They have an awesome lineup. The worst team in the division are the Reds and they are 27-32 which doesn't suck. Teams in that division are beating each other up right now. Every other division has at least 1 team that sucks, meaning at least 10 games below .500 or more. The NL Central has no doormats and has 3 teams that are a legit threat to win the WS.

To add to this, so far the Dodgers look like the class of the NL but there is a long way to go. June is always a big month in Baseball.

Cubs with a nice win tonight over a red hot Rockies team 6-3. Strop is back now which helps our Bullpen. He pitched a flawless 9th inning tonight. Brewers got stomped by the Fish 16-0. Guess who is back in 1st in the NL Central, that is right the Cubs. It is only by %points but as of June 4th we are back on top of the NL Central at 33-26. Brewers are now 34-27.

Cubs 33-26 (.559)
Brewers 34-27 (.557)

-I have a feeling this is going to be a battle all season going back and forth between these 2 teams.

Huge day in Chicago folks. The Cubs just signed Free Agent Closer Craig Kimbrel to a 3 year 45 Million dollar deal. He is known as the best Closer in the game. He narrowed down his choices to the Dodgers, Brewers, Braves, and Cubs. He chose the Cubs baby! Now let the games really begin. This puts us on the same level of playing field as the Astros, Dodgers, and Yankees now. OH YEAH. Theo has done it again. This is like getting Chapman in 2016 all over again, that is how big it is!

Cubs also won tonight 9-8 over the Rockies to improve to 34-26 on the season, Brewers lost to the Fish again 8-1 falling to 34-28. Cubs now lead the NL Central by 1 full game as of June 5th. Cubs have the 2nd best record in the NL only behind the Dodgers. With Kimbrel coming in, no more blowing 8th and 9th inning leads now.

I was watching a show on the MLB Network channel and this group of analysts put a % on who they thought would win the WS as a group. I know still very early right? These kind of talks start though once mid June is approaching. I wrote down what was said and they had it:

Astros 20% - loaded team
Dodgers 20% - loaded team
Yankees 13% - very good team.
Cubs got 10% - they loved the Kimbrel signing + Bryant is healthy.
Twins also got 10% - they were not buying into the fast start but a very good team.
Red Sox 8% - in a tough division and tough to repeat.
Brewers 7%
Rays 5%
Phillies 4%
Braves 2%
Cards 1%
-This was based on out of 100% of the vote. Fun stuff for June

Hmmm pretty good pickup - Dodger fans are desperate for an improvement in our late-inning pitching/closing. It's our #1 weakness. I wonder why Kimbrel chose the Cubbies?

Does he like losing to the Dodgers?

Could he not decide if he liked pinstripes, solids or blue or red?

Maybe he just really likes wearing images of soft furry animals on his shirts?

Yeah it was a pickup we needed. We have blown quite a few saves this season. Cubs just swept the Cards tonight, huge sweep as we get some separation from a dangerous Cards team. Standings in the NL Central heading into June 10th look like this from the big 3:

Cubs 37-27 .578%
Brewers 38-28 .576%
Cards 31-32 (5.5 back)
-I love that the Cards are struggling. They were once 20-10 on the season, since then they have been 11-22. The Brewers are going to be pesky all year, as of now the Cubs are in 1st but only by %points.

Dodgers beat Cubs 7-3. Dodgers look really great so far this season. They have some major firepower!

Watching the Cubs and Dodgers. The Dodgers are very loaded and this could be your year Rev and Lakers4Life. I was happy the Cubs beat you guys last night but that took a miracle with a Rizzo HR in the 9th. Your pitching and hitting is the best I have seen a while. You guys are playing like the 2016 Cubs and last years Red Sox. I see very little weakness in the Dodgers. So far tonight it is only 1-0 Dodgers in the 5th but it feels like 3-0 lol. That pitcher you guys have out there tonight (RYU) looks un-hittable. Cubs and Brewers will battling for the NL Central crown all year, Dodgers have their division won already :roflmao:

Yeah this is the kind of team Dodger fans wanted to see. I hope we can keep it going into the fall -- the playoffs should be quite exciting!

First MLB team to 20 wins . . 30 wins . . 40wins

And now 50 wins! 50-25 is incredible, I don't expect them to keep up quite this pace but well over 100 wins is almost a surety. Dodger fans are loving it!

The Dodgers look like the team to beat no doubt. The Astros and Yankees are very good as well. My Cubs still hold a half game lead in the NL Central at 40-33 over the 40-34 Brewers. I think once Kimbrel plays the Cubs will improve bullpen wise. I am happy to have the division lead heading into June 20th and surprised that the Brewers and Cards have struggled as much as they have. I will take it for now. I am still not a big believer in the Twins even though they are 48-25 and the Indians look done to me. The Red Sox aren't doing anything either with the Yankees in their division.

I will go as far as to say, I think once Kimbrel get on board we would beat anyone in a series in the playoffs not named the Dodgers, Astros, and Yankees. We already got a ring in 2016 and the most wins of any team over the last 5 seasons so we are still playing with house money with the core we have.

As of now I would favor the Dodgers to win the WS but until they do they are the 90's Utah Jazz of this decade. A borderline great team but fails in the end. Yankees haven't won one either this decade, they last won it in 2009. Yankees fans can say 27 but 0 in the last 10 seasons. Astros won one in 2017 so they are playing with house money like the Cubs are with the core they have.
