GAME PREVIEW: THUNDER AT LAKERS

by NBA.com

Here is what you need to know before the Lakers host the Oklahoma City Thunder.

1) B.I. led the charge last time out

Brandon Ingram is coming off one of his most complete games of the season, having tallied 21 points, nine assists and seven rebounds in Sunday’s win over Sacramento.

Ingram drew praise from his teammates and coach Luke Walton for his willingness to serve as the team’s primary distributor, handing out a new season-high in dimes.

It was especially necessary for a Lakers team that missed LeBron James for the third straight game.

And when it came down to crunch time, Ingram did it himself, hitting three straight shots to push the Lakers ahead to victory.

2) The wings were cooking

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope took his game up a level against the Kings, dropping a season-high 26 points. And Josh Hart joined him with his highest-scoring outing of the season, adding 22 of his own.

KCP was the Lakers’ top threat from deep, hitting five 3-pointers on the night. Meanwhile, Hart added three triples of his own and attacked within the arc as well.

The Lakers will benefit supremely from both players giving an encore, as they face the most formidable defense in the NBA.

3) OKC has firepower on both sides of the ball

The Thunder lead the NBA in defensive rating, as they play airtight and opportunistic ball on that side of the floor.

In fact, Oklahoma City — which also leads all teams in steals — is coming off a 20-point win over Dallas, in which it forced a franchise-record 29 turnovers.

The Thunder’s stars have been at the forefront of this, as Russell Westbrook leads the NBA in steals, while Paul George is second. And both are among the league’s best on the other side as well.

Westbrook also leads the league in assists and, improbably, is on pace to average a triple-double for the third straight season. Meanwhile, George is a top-10 scorer and top-five 3-point shooter, who has two 40-point outings in his last six games.

Injury Report

Lakers: LeBron James (strained left groin) is TBD. Rajon Rondo (right ring finger surgery) and Michael Beasley (personal reasons) are out.

Thunder: Andre Roberson (left patellar tendon) and Alex Abrines (personal) are out.

Wow, PG13 is having a heck of a year so far. What do we need, what are we lacking, to be a .650-or-better squad? Time, health, or one more superstar? OKC doesn't seem like a team built to win a title, but they can crush in the regular season. Hopefully homecourt advantage kicks in and helps us, because they're a dangerous team. If we limit our turnovers AND MAKE OUR FREE THROWS, we give ourselves a chance.

Given the missed games by Rondo, Ingram, McGee ,Bron, Beasley, Tyson coming late.. I think lack of continuity prevented us from being a true contender

It HAS prevented us, but we can still catch a groove from mid-February until mid-April. Don't underestimate post All-Star break LeBron, although we just witnessed his first old player injury.

BTW, I'll be representing tonight. Hopefully Lonzo and BI will throw Westbrook and PG13 off their games. I'm not overly optimistic, but we cab beat them at home.

OKC is a 2-headed monster with Westbrook and PG-13 and they have good role players. This game will be very tough to win with our injuries.

PG13 0-5 from 3 so far . . but Russ already with a damn-near triple double in the first half!!! Why is he allowed in the paint to get that many rebounds??

Let's go Lakers - steal this one by playing solid defense down the stretch and NO MORE TURNOVERS BRANDON :snapout:

We have ten turnovers to their five, but we've scored more off of ours than they have. Both teans shooting like crap from 3 and at the line, and we've taken and made less shots than them . . it's actually our FTs and points in the paint that are keeping us close.

Tie game at 65-65 with 7:10 left in the 3rd. Pope playing a great game with 18, PG has 22 so far, only 2-9 from 3 but 10-20 from 2. Anyone's game. Luckily Westbrook is only 2-14 from 2 and 1-5 from 3. He is really bad tonight Offensively!

I really like our flow, our energy and our tenacity. Without two of our best ball-handlers, we have to really work the ball around. Everybody looks great! Ivica and Svi getting buckets! One more quarter!
