2017 World Series Thread

We have the Houston Astros representing the AL as they beat the New York Yankees 4-3 to advance and we have the LA Dodgers representing the NL as they beat the World Champion Chicago Cubs 4-1. Who does everyone like and in how many games? I think Game 1 is much more important for the Dodgers because Kershaw is Pitching. Verlander is going in Game 2 for Houston which he will be very tough to beat.

My pick Dodgers in 6. I haven't seen any team over the last 2 seasons handle the Cubs the way they did. They just seem super hungry not winning since 1988, have a solid lineup 1-8, and the best Pitcher in the league in Kershaw. They also have the best Bullpen in the league which ultimately will be the difference IMO. If the Dodgers lose Game 1 though, this could be a scary long series.

I agree with your prediction. The Astros are a great team, but have a weak bullpen and are not as deep as the Dodgers with their starting rotation. The Dodgers were easily the best team in baseball this season and have caught fire at the right time. Go Yankees!

Yeah congrats on your season Ken. The Yankees actually overachieved. I know you don't want to hear that because they have a ton of Championships but I was pretty surprised they beat Cleveland. My Cubs just ran out of gas due to 3 straight NLCS and going 7 games in the WS and they ran into the best team in Baseball this season.

So far:
3Peat has Dodgers in 6
Ken has Dodgers in 6

Both pitchers pitched well, getting outs at a crisp enough pace to make it a "short" game - only 2 hrs 28 min. The all-important Game 1 win goes to the home team, and with Kershaw's performance and Taylor's first-pitch home run setting the tone, the Boys in Blue are off to a good start. Hard to believe that the last WS Game 1 I watched (the Kirk Gibson game) was 29 years ago. One down, three to go!

Something as a Dodger fan I notice about Kershaw: The longer his career has gone, the more humble he has become. Undoubtedly because of the postseason fuckups, but even in getting to the WS and being masterful (with some plate umpire help) he is deflective of the praise and adulation. He really needs the Dodgers to give him more run support, but HELLO -- when you're a flashy L.A. team every skid row organization brings their "A" game to try and defeat the mighty champions, and sometimes losses that shouldn't be tend to happen. It's a blessing and a curse for any California team, really. Flash vs. Substance. Hopefully his teammates can seal the deal and lessen any pressure on him to have to pitch again.

Nuggs and Kenny, check this out!

"In 1926, actor Norman Lloyd watched Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth in Game 1 of the Fall Classic. Now three weeks shy of turning 103, he'll be back in the stands for what might be the longest fan seniority streak in World Series history."

Nobody has posted in hours in here, so as the Dodgers PA announcer would say - NOBODY's HOME NOBODY's HOME :roflmao: Dodgers lose 7-6 in 11. Very tough loss, series at 1-1 and next 3 at Houston. Shit is interesting now.

Huge game tonight, the winner of Game 3 usually wins every series when it's 1-1.

Last game was a huge momentum swing to the Astros. They destroyed the vaunted Dodgers bullpen. They followed up that wild finish with a strong start at Minute Maid Park, knocking Yu out early. Baseball!

Dodgers are in trouble IMO, they have to win Game 4. What the Cubs did last season by coming back down 3-1 almost never happens.

Usually the team with the best record doesn't win it all, over the last 40 years (since the 77 Season) the Final 4 best teams to win it all have been:
1. 1998 Yankees 114-48
2. 1986 Mets 108-54
3. 1984 Tigers 104-58
4. 2016 Cubs 103-58

-Dodgers are 104-58 but are in trouble. Astros are 101-61 and are very tough, we will see.
