My Colts will start their 38th season in Indianapolis. Franchise came here in 1984 (1984-2021, 2021 starting Sunday). Time flies. The history of the Indianapolis Colts is really a good read for such a small market team.

-We got our SB win in 2006

-2 SB appearances = 2006, 2009

-5 AFC Title Game appearances = 1995, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2014

-A whopping 19 Playoff appearances = 1987, 1995,1996,1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018, 2020 - we have made the playoffs over 50% of the time while in Indianapolis.

-From 2004-2006 the Colts went 25-3 (89.3%) at home including Reg season and Playoff games. 12th man!

Sadly, 3Peat, I have renounced my Raider fanhood. It's strange to lose love and loyalty for a favorite sports team, one I had been following faithfully since childhood, but when the franchise - owned/controlled by the same family for decades, much like the Lakers - shows little to no loyalty for its hard-earned hometown fanbase, decisions have to be made. Their move to L.A. resulted in a Super Bowl win in 1983 - which was really a remnant of their Oakland championship team in 1981. But after that, the trademark phrases "Just Win Baby" and "Committment To Excellence" became bad jokes, as the Raiders went from the winningest pro sports team in history to the literal worst. Draft picks kept washing out or getting traded, the coaching carousel spun round and round, and season after season brought loss after loss after loss. Except for the brief run of success during the Rich Gannon era, even a return to Oakland couldn't stop the inexcusable amount of poor choices and losing seasons. And just when they start to build something solid and take things somewhat seriously, Al Davis' bowl-cut goofball son brokers a move to Las Vegas, leaving die-hard old-school OAKLAND Raider fans like me heartbroken.

Al Davis was a pioneer - he invented the Raiders in 1966 and built a culture based on bad-asses playing rough, ruthless and smash-mouth football. The Raiders were the anti-heroes of the NFL throughout the 1970s - only the Steelers were more dominant - and into the early 1980s they seemed poised to remain tough, skilled and a league favorite, but what followed was 30 years of consistent under-achieving, brain-dead coaching, no team cohesion, record-setting penalties, embarrasing losses and a total lack of focus on building a solid playoff contender. Had they remained in Oakland, or even L.A. for that matter, and at least won a few playoff games here and there, it would have been easier to keep supporting the team. But after all the losing seasons, bone-headed execution from the coaches and on the field, and absolutely NO loyalty to the city and fanbase that gave life to the Raider brand, that is no longer my team. Just as I couldn't support a Donald presidency, I cannot root for a team whose owner has shown that the almighty dollar and the shallow flash of Vegas was the ultimate goal. I hope the best for the players but I can no longer get happy for their success. Kinda sucks but oh well - still got my Lakers and Dodgers.

Yeah I can see that point of view Rev. If the Colts moved out of Indy I would probably no longer follow them. They sell out every game and Irsay loves Indianapolis so I doubt there is any of danger of them doing it. Irsay has been one of the best owners Indy could ask for. I remember when Peyton Manning and Ryan Leaf came out of the draft, Bill Polian was 50/50 on who to take 1st. Irsay stepped in after both guys interviewed and told Polian to take Peyton. The rest was history, 1 SB win - brought the city of Indianapolis a World Title in 2006, 2 SB apps, and 4 League MVP's here. Had we drafted Leaf that would've been a disaster. I wasn't a Colts before they moved here, I was a kid and didn't even follow Baltimore sports. What led me to being a Laker fan was I seen Kareem on TV and play lol. Back then he stood out bigtime, I thought he was cool :roflmao: . Baseball wise we have never had a team so it was either the Reds or Cubs around here because Cincy and Chicago are close. I chose the Cubs when I was a kid.

Hey, relationships come and go. Had the "family franchise" Baltimore Colts not made a snowy 1984 midnight escape to Indy in Mayflower trucks :waaaaa: you wouldn't have a home *Peyton Manning* :smurf: team to root for! Very timely. I was born in Los Angeles in May of 1970 and MY family relocated to Garden Grove (right next to Disneyland), where I had a fuckin AMAZING childhood :dacount: Raiders :cookiemonster: Dodgers :smurf: and Lakers. Then, in 1981, I was forcibly relocated to the Bay Area - a shrewd twist, but it allowed me to see the stark differences between SoCal and NorCal sports fans. So in a way maybe you can understand the move to Vegas by Marc Davis from a different perspective than mine. :soapbox:

As the Baltimore (Maryland) Colts (1953–84), they won three NFL championships (1958, 1959, 1968) and one Super Bowl in 1971. The Colts originated from the dissolved Dallas Texans NFL team in 1953. In 1971 the Colts won their first Super Bowl, a 16–13 victory over - yep, the Dallas Cowboys.

Anyway, Carol Rosenbloom was a huge family gangster mogul from Baltimore, and under his ownership he ushered in a new way of doing business in football, and he ended up gifting the Rams to his wife Georgia Frontiere. He actually SWAPPED entire teams with Rams owner Robert Irsay, then famously moved the Rams from L.A. Coliseum to Anaheim. He allegedly was strangled while swimming in a clear-cut mob hit at the age of 72.

No sport more American than football.

Great stuff Rev, when the Colts were in Baltimore they had a great history as well. As a fan of the Indianapolis Colts I was really fortunate to have Peyton here for 14 seasons and then Andrew Luck to follow that up for 7 seasons. It is ashame that Luck's career got cut short but in his 1st 3 seasons he grabbed the keys from Peyton and it was like Peyton wasn't even gone = 3 straight 11-5 seasons and even an AFC Title Game. Unfortunately in the 2014 AFC Title Game it was a lopsided loss to Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. I thought Philip Rivers played well in his 1 season here last year, as far as Carson Wentz goes last week was a disaster vs Seattle.

From 2003-2014 the Colts won more Regular Season games (134) and more Playoff games (12) than any other team except the Patriots in that 12 season stretch.. Only the Patriots, Steelers, and Giants won more SB's in that time frame. Steelers and Giants won 2 SB's, Patriots won 4. We won our SB in 2006! 2011 was the only bad season but because of that season we were able to Draft Luck in 2012. So I had a 12 season stretch that I will never forget that most fans can only dream about and it was just recently happened, not like 20 or 30 years ago.

To follow this up, I compare what the Colts had from 2003-2014 to the Lakers of the 60's, during that time span the Colts had to play the Patriots numerus times in the playoffs much like Baylor and West had to play Russell's loaded teams. Other wise both those Colts and Lakers would've had multiple Championships. The Colts did beat the Patriots once in the AFC Title Game, that made Peyton's legacy but Peyton as a Colt lost twice to the Pats and Luck lost to them twice too in the playoffs. The Patriots prevented us from possibly getting to the SB 4 times and did twice. I hate Mass teams :roflmao: .

I still wish I can could get back that 2009 SB loss, Peyton was clutch all season, flawless. We started 14-0 but then in the SB he threw that INT, I about shit when that happened. It wasn't all his fault, Reggie ran a lousy route and really the crucial play of that game was the Saints getting that onside kick. We get that we probably go up 17-6 in the 3rd, instead they score. That was a 14 point swing.

Tough loss for your Colts, 3Peat. Lamar basically had the best 4th quarter in NFL history to bring his team back from a 25-9 deficit. MEANWHILE . . I'm feeling more than happy to have distanced myself from the absolute train wreck that has become the Raiders. Never liked Jon Gruden, and owner Mark Davis is now culpable for his decisions as well. What a waste of time.

Yeah that loss was like a kick in the nuts! Now we are 1-4 = not good. We dominated a little over 3 Qtrs then Lamar went crazy. We still should've won but our FG kicker missed 2 FG's (1 was blocked) including one that would've won the game. Wentz threw for 400 yards but all for not.

The Jon Gruden situation is baffling. I always thought he was arrogant but a good coach but I had no idea he was r.a.cist. From hearing what he wrote in his e-mails he seems that way. It is ashame Rev, Raiders are a mess.

Taylor is a Beast, Wentz is a good QB, and Leonard leads the league in forced fumbles. We still have a ways to go at 4-5 but it is getting better. We play the Jags next week so if we can get to 5-5 anything can happen. We have pretty much own the Jags at Indy over the years.

Colts 31-0 over Houston :roflmao:

There was a discussion locally here in Indy on sports talk radio regarding what kind of banners should be hung from the roof at Colts stadium. A lot of people weighed in: The majority said Division banners shouldn't be, only SB Championships banners and AFC Championships banners should be and the 2 exceptions are the 1995 AFC Title Game app and the 2014 AFC Title App because fans feel like we were cheated in both those games. In 1995 the Refs basically gave the game to Pittsburgh, Pitt scored a TD where the WR went out of bounds and came back in to catch it. Also the last play of the game was a catch by Indy for the win and the Refs ruled it incomplete. In 2014 that was Deflategate against the Cheaters. They were throwing nerf balls in the 1st half and got a big lead. So those were 2 exceptions. I actually called in and I agree with these banners as well:

Since 1984, my banners would look like this If I was owner:

1995 AFC Conference Finalist
(Refs cheated us)

2006 AFC Champions

2006 World Champions

2009 AFC Champions

2014 AFC Conference Finalist
(Deflategate)

Funny discussion but those 4 teams deserve a banner for what they accomplished and the circumstances behind it = 1995, 2006, 2009, and 2014. 1995 we had Harbaugh at QB, 2014 it was Andrew. Peyton got us to 2 SB's in 2006 and 2009 winning 1.
