GAME PREVIEW: LAKERS AT 76ERS

by Christian Rivas, @RadRivas, silverscreenandroll.com

As silly as it may sound, LeBron James made a statement against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday.

In his 18th season, James showed he can still be the best player in the NBA when he wants to be, and even on nights where he doesn’t look his sharpest (read: the majority of the regular season), he still looks pretty damn good — so good, in fact, that at this point of the season, he’s arguably the favorite to win MVP.

However, there’s still a lot of season left, and James isn’t the only player that’s made a strong case for MVP. Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid is also off to a fantastic start this season, averaging 27.7 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.3 steals per game while averaging 31.6 minutes per game. As you can imagine, his Per 36 numbers are just silly.

In addition to Embiid’s individual success, the 76ers have been successful as a team, which has made him an even more enticing pick for MVP. Embiid will look to build on his case when the Lakers come into town on Wednesday, but as a member of the Cavaliers’ front office found out on Monday, it doesn’t take much to get James fired up, and a chance to make an early-season MVP race statement certainly qualifies as something.

The 76ers also hold the best record in the Eastern Conference, so this will be a battle of the biggest beast in the east and the best in the west. Suffice to say, there are plenty of reasons to tune in for this one.

Joel Embiid is making a case for MVP early this season, so this game will be a "statement" for him and LeBron no matter how it plays out. Some stats:

Ben Simmons is scoring 12.8 points per game and averaging 8.4 rebounds for the 76ers. Danny Green is averaging 2.7 made 3-pointers and 10.1 points over the last 10 games for Philadelphia.

James leads the Lakers averaging 2.7 made 3-pointers while scoring 25.2 points per game and shooting 41.2% from beyond the arc. Anthony Davis is averaging 19.3 points and 7.9 rebounds while shooting 50.0% over the last 10 games for Los Angeles.

LAST 10 GAMES: 76ers: 5-5, averaging 112.9 points, 45.6 rebounds, 22 assists, 8.9 steals and 6.2 blocks per game while shooting 46.6% from the field. Their opponents have averaged 114.5 points on 45.8% shooting.

Lakers: 8-2, averaging 114.5 points, 45.8 rebounds, 24.2 assists, 7.3 steals and 6.8 blocks per game while shooting 48.1% from the field. Their opponents have averaged 104.8 points on 45.5% shooting.

That was a suck way to lose, it happens though. Sometimes it is better to be lucky than great lol.

A predictable loss, but not the way we lost. Missed free throws? Some pretty poor performances out there. AD is in a bit of a funk. I see what Robert means about Schroder not being a great fit. More Caruso and less of him would seem to be a smart decision moving forward. Harrell was a zero out there, but then again the guy who we let go for some reason was on the court a lot guarding him. Should have won this game, but somehow I knew we wouldn't. We need more practice!
