Yesterday was exhausting. It used to be that everyone waited on the big free agents to sign, but not this time around. I think it's real 50-50 that we get him, or should I say 33 1/3- 33 1/3 - 33 1/3. Remember, as much as I can't stand the way he seems to be anti-Lakers, Woj said it was between the Raptors and Clippers before all this started and Jerry West remains confident that the Clippers will get him.
Meanwhile, Danny Green is waiting to see what happens with Kawhi. I suspect that Masai Ujiri is even more confident than the Lakers brass and Clippers that he can convince Kawhi to stay, meaning that Danny Green would stay. If Kawhi goes to the Lakers, watch Danny Green sign with the Mavs or Clippers for some ridiculous money. If Kawhi goes to the Clippers, watch the Lakers sign Green to a ridiculous contract.
When the dust settles and we don't get Kawhi, we still have LeBron, AD and Kuz. There are still plenty of quality free agents out there, including the aforementioned Danny Green. Well, not plenty, but between who is left and the buy out guys and guys who can get traded into the cap space, the Lakers will be formidable next season. The Vegas odds still favor us, not that that means anything. I suppose the good news is that no one has tendered an offer sheet to Alex Caruso yet!
In the words of the late, great, beloved Chick Hearn: "It's nervous time!"
