The 2018 World Series Thread

Postby 3Peatkb24 » Tue Oct 23, 2018 4:27 am

-I created a new Baseball Thread here since the 2018 World Series starts tonight. To me Pro Baseball is the best sport going, lots of parity and because of Instant replay it's even tough for the UMP's to control a game like the REFS can in Pro Football and Pro Basketball.

-Here are all the World Series winners this decade so far:
2010 - SF Giants
2011 - St Louis Cardinals
2012 - SF Giants
2013 - Boston Red Sox
2014 - SF Giants
2015 - KC Royals
2016 - Chicago Cubs
2017 - Houston Astros
2018 - ?
2019 - ?

-This 2018 World Series features the Boston Red Sox vs the LA Dodgers. The 1st 2 games will be played at Boston, the middle 3 at LA, and the last 2 games at Boston. Games 5-7 if Necessary.

-Fun facts for this seasons World Series:
*The Boston Red Sox trying to become the best single season team of the decade to win a World Series. They went 108-54, the 2016 Chicago Cubs went 103-58 so they hold that accolade for now.

*The LA Dodgers trying to win their 1st World Series since the 1988 Season.

*Clayton Kershaw looking for his 1st Ring!

-Who do you guys pick and why? I have the Dodgers winning in 7 games. They came so close last season losing in 7 games to the Astros and have that hunger now to finish the business is why I am picking them. They also have the talent to match Boston's Pitching wise and Lineup wise.

I expect the Dodgers to do very well against Boston, possibly even shock them and go up 2-1 or 3-1. Boston has the edge, but they may run out of steam and this Dodgers club is better than last year's that took Houston to 7 games. Exciting times for Dodger fans, hopefully we can play lights-out tonight and steal one in the chill of Beantown. Splitting the first two games is essential!

Only 1 game but not a good start. LA has to win Game 2. Boston's Offense is really impressive.

Boston jumped on us from the get-go, and we showed we can score and hang with them, a little. That's the only positive takeaway from this Game 1. Kershaw keeps adding fuel to the fire that he's not a big-game pitcher, despite his impressive statistical career. He just seems to lose his edge and give up hits to no-name .250 hitters who normally would have no chance against a pitcher of his caliber. Oh well. On to Game 2. This series has a decidedly Celtics vs. Lakers feel to it, and if the baseball gods are kind, this might turn out to be a heck of a series.

Game 2 will be the defining moment of this WS for the Dodgers if they do win. I think whoever wins Game 2 will win the series. I know that sounds strange but if LA gets their split they will win in 6 or 7 IMO. If the Sox go up 2-0, I don't see anyway they blow that with the Offense they have.

The Bums were down 0-2 to the mighty Yanks in '81 and came back to win the Series. Then did the impossible in '88. I believe in miracles when it comes to sports :roflmao:

After Gibson's HR in 88 I dont blame you Brethren. That was the greatest HR in WS history IMO. I do think whoever wins Game 2 will have the momentum and a nice advantage. See if LA can win Game 2 it will get those BeanTowners thinking then. Then 3 in a row in LA to boot!

Well not good Dodger fans. Being down 0-2 is a hell of a hole to dig out of. Its happened before though, the Cubs came back down 3-1 to the Indians just 2 years ago. So technically it's not over but looking bad.

I hate to say this but if these Dodgers do go on to lose this they will be known as the Utah Jazz of the 90's of this decade. The Dodgers have won 6 straight Division Titles, been to 4 NLCS's, and now 2 straight WS. If they lose this 2nd WS in a row, they are in 90's Jazz country who were Very Good all decade but lost the Finals in 1997 and 1998. That is of course for only this decade/this era of players with the players they have had lately. The Dodgers still always have the 1981 and 1988 WS wins, Jazz have never won one period.

-Goes to show how tough it is to win a Championship in any sport. The Lakers spoiled us rotten in the 80's and from 2000-2002/2009 and 2010. I thank God almost every day that the Colts at least won one SB with Manning in 2006 and the Cubs won a WS in 2016. Can't take that stuff for granted.

Our bats (and arms) can freeze in Boston but they will heat up in California. This is far from over.

I hope so Rev, it seems the Boston/Mass teams always use that cold weather to their advantage. That was a huge advantage for the Patriots in 2003, 2004, 2013, and 2014 vs the Colts in those Playoffs. What is up with it being freezing in Fenway in October though . The Dodgers need to win all 3 in LA.

Boston won at home like they’re supposed to. Now it’s The Doyers turn to win at home. Pressures on definitely. But this isn’t over. We obviously got to make this a 3 game series.

Hey what's up my Brethren, I was starting to get worried about you. I don't go on Facebook anymore but was about too to check to make sure you were ok. Good luck to your Dodgers. Man an 0-2 hole sucks to holy hell. It's not over yet though I agree, one game at a time brother.
