GAME PREVIEW: ROCKETS AT LAKERS

BY NBA.COM

LeBron James will make his regular-season home debut as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers when they host the Houston Rockets on Saturday night.

James, a four-time NBA most valuable player, signed with the Lakers in July after leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to four straight NBA Final appearances, including their first championship in 2016.

He has played in every NBA Finals since 2010, also winning titles in 2012 and 2013 with the Miami Heat.

James had 26 points, 12 rebounds and six assists in his Los Angeles debut against the Trail Blazers in Portland on Thursday night, but the Lakers lost 128-119.

The Lakers will likely need a better start with their long-range shooting against the Rockets. Los Angeles missed its first 15 tries from 3-point range before finishing 7 for 30 (23.3 percent) against Portland.

James said he and his new teammates are still going through a feeling-out period.

"It takes a while to get to where you can close your eyes and know exactly where your guys are," he told reporters after his Lakers debut. "It's going to take patience from our team, from all of us, to just figure out one another, figure out what we are good at, figure out what we are not so good at, how we can be better at it."

The Rockets returned their core players from last season's team that lost to the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals, and they added 10-time NBA All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony to the mix. They seemed to run low on energy in their season opener against the visiting New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night, however.

After getting outscored by 17 points in the first half, the Rockets were unable to generate a push against the Pelicans and lost 131-112. New Orleans shot 53.1 percent from the floor.

"I thought they were tired," said Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni, who coached the Lakers for two seasons (2012-13 and 2013-14).

James Harden, who averaged an NBA-leading 30.4 points last season en route to winning NBA MVP honors, was held to 18 points on 6-for-15 shooting.

Anthony, who played the last season with the Oklahoma City Thunder, scored nine points off the bench on 3-for-10 shooting.

Harden, a Los Angeles-area native, is averaging 30.3 points in 32 career games against the Lakers.

One of the bright spots for the Lakers in their season opener was the play of reserve shooting guard Josh Hart. The second-year player scored 20 points on 8-for-12 shooting, including 3 for 5 from 3-point range.

Hart played 27 minutes, the same as starting shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. who was limited to five points on 1-for-3 shooting from the floor.

Hart didn't want to talk about his offense afterward, but rather how he could improve on his defense after Portland reserve shooting guard Nik Stauskas scored 24 points and shot 5 of 8 on 3-pointers.

"Just got to make sure we get the adjustments down and get better on defense," he told Spectrum SportsNet.

Unfortunately I am going to miss this game because I have to go to bed shortly. Work real early in the morning, I will check out the highlights out when I get up in the morning. I hope for a win in the home opener.

Wish we could have joined you - my son is 21 today and I had plans to get down for this game, but alas life has its own way of re-arranging things. Nobody wants an 0-2 start, and these Rockets are sore from getting whipped by Unibrow so they'll come in trying to give LeBron more Western Conference "welcome" as Portland did on Thursday. Mike "no D"Antoni's team can score, but we have to put it in the hole as well - including some 3s - if we want to win this one. Good thing about having LeBron and Rondo is that they know how to play and know how to win, and over the first trimester I trust them to help Luke and the rest of the staff in gear. We need big seasons from Ingram and Kuzma . . and Lonzo HAS to find his niche with this team or he may find himself Big Balling somewhere else.

Lonzo is a fav of Magic and Luke and LeBron
He isn't going anywhere except the starting lineup in about 5 games.

Rondo will control the bench (Lance) and Hart might join Zo in the starting lineup also

If we can stop bricking from downtown we might win. Nice mix of scoring, though.

Extremely poor execution down the stretch. Loss of composure. Harden toyed with us. Bad shot selection.

Luke - get your team together bruh.

I just read where we lost! I guess there was a fight at the end of the game too. So far 0-2.

James Ennis III should have received a Tech II and should get a healthy suspension. Because the refs treated him with kid gloves, it inflamed everyone, especially Ingram for some reason. Then James Harden does what he does everyone he attacks the basket, which is to foul whoever is in his way and as long as the refs are going to ignore Harden's bullshit and call fouls on everyone how breathes on him, Ingram said fuck it and went after the motherfucker. I didn't see what precipitated the Rondo-CP3 brew haha, other than CP3 poking Rondo in the face, but fuck the Rockets.

It is frustrating to lose, no doubt. For 82 games last season, all we heard was that we gave a great effort and Luke was saying the same shit after last night's loss. It is winning time. Enough is enough.

BTW, I think Ingram will get a 5-10 game suspension. Rondo 3-6.

-James Harden is the biggest flopper in NBA history, how the REFS buy his shit and have for years is puzzling. He just throws his body into players and gets the call. He did the same shit when he played for OKC even as a role player and still got calls.

-Regarding the suspensions I hope they aren't lengthy because when punches are thrown you never know what the league will do. I just watched it. I guess CP3 is saying Rondo spit in his face as well, so who knows? I still think we will get rolling but it may take 10 or 20 games to get rolling. We have LeBron James for crying out loud = Top 10 ever/Top 5 ever so we will start winning soon. What was funny about the whole fight was Lance was playing peacemaker and tried to save Ingram from going nuts. Lance the crazy man playing peacemaker, who would've thunk it :roflmao:

That's fucked. Chris Paul poked Rondo in or about the eye and scratched him. That's much more dangerous than an amateur left hook to the side of the face. Fuck the NBA. James Ennis should have received a 7 game suspension ala MWP for that blatant clothesline that should have been a Tech 2, and James Harden should get 5 games as a matter of principle for inciting the opposition. BI finally said enough is enough of this utter bullshit. That's not on him; it's on Harden. Nauseating.

This is not exactly how the season was supposed to start. These are not your Kobe's Lakers, or even your Shaq's or your Magic's Lakers. Would've been nice to have this happen when we're above .500. :fanshithit:
