GAME PREVIEW: QUEENS AT LAKERS

by Joey Ramirez, nba.com

Here is what you need to know before the Lakers host the Sacramento Kings for a preseason exhibition.

1) LeBron has earned unparalleled respect

In case there were still any doubters, the NBA’s general managers once again anointed LeBron James as the league’s alpha dog, voting him most likely to win MVP this season.

The accolades didn’t stop there. The GMs also selected James first in the categories for best small forward; best basketball IQ; best leader; best passer; most versatile; biggest impact on a new team; and most coaching adjustments forced.

Thus far, LeBron has played 15 minutes in the first half of the Lakers’ preseason games, before resting the second half. While he hasn’t gone full bore in these exhibitions, he has had those moments where he reminded everyone who he is.

A no-look pass here, a running slam there. We’ll see what he has next.

2) JaVale McGee has made quite the first impression

Sure, it’s (very, very) early, but JaVale McGee has injected lots of energy to his new team, even leading the Lakers in scoring in both of their first two preseason games.

McGee has lived at the rim — bounding in transition and springing out of screen-and-rolls — and has done so with extreme efficiency, shooting 13-of-18 from the floor.

The 10-year veteran has also been the Lakers’ most important defender so far. McGee has been a deterrent at the rim, including swatting five shots in Tuesday’s game.

3) Josh Hart is showing his versatility

With coach Luke Walton evaluating who will start at shooting guard come opening night, Josh Hart has begun making his case in a unique way.

Hart — who came off the bench in the preseason opener — got the starting nod on Tuesday. He showed some of what has come to be expected from him, shooting 4-of-5 at the rim and hitting a couple 3-pointers.

But he also added some surprising moments that spoke to his ability to compete at multiple positions. There was a possession where he rolled to the rim like a big, and another where he defended Nikola Jokic in the post.

Hart has spent much of the offseason declaring (and showing) that he is more than a 3 and D wing. But, even with that forewarning, those types of big-man plays were certainly unexpected.

Sacramento had a nice outing vs. the Suns, with contributions from the young up-and-coming stars on their roster. That being said, if we improve our perimeter defense and just play to our strengths on offense, this should be a win going away. Let the young guns step up - Ingram, Kuzma, Hart and Zubac should keep seeing more minutes - and watch Rondo and LeBron do their thing. This squad is going to be at its most dangerous when it finds its fluidity and creates open shots. Ball movement will be key, as LeBron, Rondo and Lance all like to dribble and go iso at times . . and learning how to utilize the rest of the team is crucial.

NBA basketball in Seattle! Poor Sonics fans - at least the league didn't schedule KD and the Warriors to play in this one, that would be heartbreaking.

Not sure why we lost the "edit" function that we used to have . . but I just realized this is highly inaccurate -- I was thinking WE (or someone else besides the Warriors) were playing in Seattle, but it IS the Dubs and Kings playing in the Emerald City! I wonder if or when the NBA will grant Sonics fans a new team . . and if so, will the name change? "Sonics" referenced the jet airline industry, but that is no longer Seattle's major industry.

I have my edit function. Hmmm ..

Ws and Ls are the least of "our" concerns right now. No point guards tonight other than Caruso. Rondo's not playing and I guess Lonzo isn't quite ready for sub-prime time.

Starters tonight are Ingram, Hart, LeBron, Kuzma and McGee. I would say that's a "nice grouping."

Trying to check the running stats but ESPN seems to be having technical issues. Got rid of some cable channels last week and GRRRR just realized NBAtv was one of them! Tie game down the stretch, I guess we've either had trouble scoring or stopping them from scoring. We need a win!

Ingram just put the Lakers up 122-121, 40 seconds left. I have watched some of this. LeBron had 18 Points in 15 minutes of play. He still looks like the best player in the league.

LeBron and Lance are having a ton of fun on the bench = dancing around and yelling :roflmao: , they look like they love playing for the Lakers. Kuzma with a huge tip in, Lakers up 126-123 with 10 seconds left.

Lakers win 128-123, entertaining for a pre-season game.

Welp, that ended up being a higher-scoring affair than it appeared early. Still can't get any stats off ESPN. But a W is a W.

The game was on the NBA Channel Rev, do you not have that? Ingram scored 31, LeBron 18, Kuz 17
