Dwight Howard is a Laker! I called it and I am ok with it. He is a good player. :xclaphands:

Lakers signed him to a 1 year non-guaranteed contract. We have nothing to lose, this is a steal. I could care less how he rubbed me wrong or other Lakers fans back in the summer of 2013. This isn't the same situation, he will be a great role player.

I'm having hot flashes back to 2012-13. I'm not at all optimistic about this despite all the glowing reports about his health and attitude. People don't change; they become more so. Maybe he is in excellent shape and maybe his back is pain free (we'll see how long that lasts). He is still Dwight Howard and will become a locker room problem. I think he will be cut loose before the start of the regular season. I think they should have signed Noah and Speights and, if Iggy becomes available, they can always cut loose Daniels or THT. JMO. But this the the Lakers and just like her father, Jeanie Buss is rolling the dice. Stay tuned.

Dwight looked damn good in preseason. In terms of doing what we need from him. A bit stiff but still a big presence in The lane

I think Dwight is going to have a good season. This is his last chance and he knows it. He is still a very good if not great defensive player. He is now on a loaded team as well, if he blows this chance to blend in then he might as well retire.

Just watched 1980 Finals Game 6 and was reminded how completely underwhelming Mo Cheeks, Dr. J and Darryl Dawkins were. Throw in Norm Nixon - who was clearly a non-factor to Magic and would soon be replaced by Byron Scott. Seeing young Pat Riley on the podium with glasses on, crazily chewing gum and smiling while Bret Musberger and Dr. Buss talked about the long-awaited championship was really funny. Magic was absolutely head-and-shoulders above anyone on the court that day.

Magic was only 19 years old and made vets/grown men like DR J and Dawkins look like babies. Other than Jordan, Magic is the best basketball player I have ever seen. Kobe was like Jordan but Magic was just such a fantastic leader and could do it all.

And LeBron in his 16th or whatever year is the closest thing to Magic we've seen. I hope we set the NBA on fire, all this Clipper hype is making my allergies act up. Muhfuckin grown men professional sports analysts are actually picking those bastards to win a championship. Not gonna happen.

LeBron has to prove it to us now. He has a team again that he can win a championship with. Great all-time player but can he improve his legacy and become a all-time great Laker?

Sorry for the lack of a game thread last night. I usually create one when Kenny doesn't. I had to go to bed real early last night because of working today. I couldn't even watch the game. Anyway we won 95-86 over the Jazz to improve to 1-1.

Solid defensive effort but they had no Bogdonavich. Defense has to be our calling card and KCP has to put together a whole season of niceness - not just a few games here and there. Winning streaks are what I'm looking for.

I represented at the home opener and it was the most fun I had at a game since Kobe' last game! Watching this team of veterans will be fun for all of us hopefully all season long. You can see the potential for sure and AD hasn't even gotten going yet! At times it looked like he could guard the Jazz 1 on 5. Danny Green is such a solid player and the "perfect fit" for this team. Avery Bradley looks like he may have his defensive mojo back and Alex Caruso and (yes) KCP were all solid defensively, a great sign. Mike Conley and Donovan Mitchell aren't exactly chopped liver and was Joe Ingles even in the game? They let Emmanuel Mudiay get his. So what.

I'm saving my favorite for last though. Dwight. His defense set the tone when he was in the game almost as much as AD. His low post presence was smothering and he moved his feet well. It's weird seeing him so thin, but he's still strong as a bull out there, setting great screens, fighting for rebounds and protecting the rim. Because we dislike him and his bravado, it is easy to overlook that he is a future Hall of Famer and dominated his way to the NBA Finals 10 years ago. You don't get to that level without having a high basketball IQ. He gets my benefit of the doubt and the Game 2 game ball (that is actually LeBron's - vintage stuff from him at both ends!)

As for the Game Threads, I will try to remember to do my best and will put one up today. Merry requires my undivided attention in the morning, but I will try to weave this in. It only takes about 5-10 minues, so I should be able to do it.

#LAKESHOW!

"The Lakers likely don’t have the pieces to put together a really solid trade that beats what the Clippers or even Denver Nuggets could give the Grizzlies. This means that if the Lakers want him, they’ll have to wait until the 2020 NBA trade deadline passes, hope the Grizzlies can’t find a deal they like, and proceed to buy him out."
