No surprise, but at least he'll be properly honored. The complete basketball player.

Sad but expected. This is the only way we can re-build. When you have a player like this on his last leg then retire it takes a lot for a fan base to recover and be interested in their team again as he has impacted the game of Basketball so greatly. I know all about that with Peyton leaving Indy (Sorry Jesus but I have to use this Football example to get my point across), it will take an Andrew Luck type of player which I thought Okafor would be for us to help get us back on track. Who knows what the fuck it will take at this point actually but our team is a mess. Regarding Kobe he is a Top 10 player by anyone doing lists, Top 5 to a lot of us, a winner = 5 Titles, and the closest thing to Michael Jordan so lets just enjoy his final season/games and roll with it. Kobe hasn't been the same since the Achilles injury.

I'll be honest. I unrealistically was hoping that Kobe had 2 more years in him. And he does. Mentally. But he obviously knows that his body can't handle the rigors of the NBA any longer. Which I obviously had no idea. How could I? It's his body.

This realization of Kobe retiring has me shaken up. I (almost) feel like I did when Magic made his premature retirement announcement. I'm fighting off the tears.

You are a great Laker. Probably the greatest! And I thank you, great warrior, for never leaving the Purple & Gold for easy (er) Championship rings. You deserve a better farewell tour. There'll be no fairytale. But your Laker 4 Life dedication will be the standard for Laker greats for years to come.

I salute you Black Mamba. #Vino # Champion #G.OA.T.

Thanks for staying stubborn and a killer and being selfish and chucking up shots and not being like Jordan and staying with the Lakers and putting up with Pau and bringing more glory and hardware and banners to the franchise.

We will always be Kobe.

To say that the media has treated Kobe like shit is an understatement. It has been going on for a long, long time.

Kevin Durant is my new favorite player! He needs to be a Laker next season!
