GAME PREVIEW: LAKERS AT HEAT

By Kevin Chroust, nba.com

The Miami Heat have been trading wins and losses this season, but it might not be all that difficult a habit to break in the second of a seven-game homestand.

With the Heat coming off an impressive victory, the Los Angeles Lakers visit Tuesday night following a highly discouraging loss.

The Heat (4-3) opened the homestand with Sunday's 96-76 win over Toronto, outscoring the Raptors 52-29 in the second half with a 33-14 edge from the bench for the game. They've allowed 100 points only once this season, and their 90.4 allowed per game and .409 opponent field-goal percentage are among the best in the league.

"That was really inspiring basketball in the second half," said coach Erik Spoelstra, whose team held the Raptors to 3 of 19 from 3-point range. "I think the second unit really sparked the energy of the entire team and everybody fed off that defensive energy."

On the other end, Chris Bosh scored a season-high 23 points and is coming around with an average of 20.0 over his last three games while shooting 48.8 percent from the floor. Through the first four contests, he was scoring 14.0 per game and hitting 37.7 percent.

It's come at a good time because Dwayne Wade has fallen off with 10.5 points per game on 28.6 percent shooting in his last two after scoring at least 20 and shooting 49.4 percent over the first five games.

The Heat have won six straight in the series and 10 of 11, as well as seven in a row at home. The Lakers' most recent win at Miami came in December 2008 before they went on to win the NBA title. Things couldn't be more different for Kobe Bryant and Co.

Los Angeles (1-5) followed its only win with a 99-95 loss Sunday against New York, missing 16 straight fourth-quarter shots after leading by six points.

"We just got bogged down mentally," coach Byron Scott told the team's official website. "We stopped moving the ball like we did earlier (when we) tried to explore both sides of the floor and get easy shots. Everything was contested. The defense was right in front of us. I thought we lost our focus for a little while on both ends of the court."

Bryant had 18 points on 6-of-19 shooting in possibly his last visit to Madison Square Garden, but he's not getting a ton of help. Jordan Clarkson has been a bright spot with 16.5 points per game on 49.4 percent shooting - including 45.5 from 3 point range - but the team is near the bottom of the league at 40.3 overall and 27.0 from long range.

The 37-year-old Bryant, who is averaging 16.5 points while shooting 32.0 percent and 20.8 from 3-point range, recently spoke with Scott about how he'd like his minutes handled. According to Scott, the conversation revealed much more than Bryant's desire to play back-to-back sets such as this trip through Miami and Orlando.

"His feeling was: 'You know, Coach, this might be my last year. So if possible, I'd like to try to play every game,'" Scott said. "So I'm with that with him, and we'll see how that plays out."

Bryant's previous game against the Heat - a 78-75 loss Jan. 13 - was about on par with his form lately. He went 3 of 19 for 12 points, but he's missed three of the last four meetings.

If the rest of the team is not taking the reins and running the squad and the franchise, don't blame it on Kobe. Per se. They need to adapt, build, learn and squeeze off Kobe (ok maybe bad metaphor) in order to form an identity. This is an entirely new NBA atmosphere. Having said that, CHECKING IN for what could turn out to be a classic. But a win is what we need and we have a better chance in the East than we do in the West. Staples is the Clippers' shitty roost now. They've fouled and defiled it, and Kobe has to come back at least one more year to help spiritually guide this plane back into the friendly skies. I just want to see good basketball. It takes a heart to be a champion.

WHY IS HIBBERT NOT SCORING?? WHY IS RUSSELL NOT ASSISSTING? WHY IS RANDLE NOT SHUTTING BOSH DOWN?

Fading fast. This is not a player personnel problem -- even thought it is. This is a staff, management and franchise problem. I'm convinced now.

DAR with another stellar performance, yeah I shouldn't even go there. Hibbert has STIFFness tonight too :fanshithit: What a lousy performance. Bosh 30 and 10. 1-6 is the record now. Nick played great tonight though. Unfortunately it looks like we are in for the 3rd straight long bad season. 27-55 in 2014, 21-61 in 2015, and who knows how this mess will end up. At least we do have a Top 3 protected pick if it comes to that.

I am done predicting that we can get back to being a .500 team until we have a season where our chemistry looks good and we win over 30 games, Ken looks to be right again. It's very early but as of now we don't look like a team that can win 25 games.

No surprise tonight. Look at 16 win Minny last season and what a difference a year of experience for youngsters make. Our talented yutes will grow up with each mistake they make. Mark my words. The Lakers are playing this correctly.

They have Wiggins who I also said would be Great, he has been tearing it up, Good so far Averaging 20 a game. If we had Okafor my out look would be much brighter. Watch in 3 seasons Okafor will be similar to Tim Duncan "lol4: Having said that I like DAR, Randle, and Clarky. We just need to have patience and roll with it. If we get a Top 3 pick and don't take Ben Simmons with a chance to take him I honestly think something goofy is going on then. Had we taken Okafor I have to admit I would've took even more time out of my life just to watch our team.

First of all, you shouldn't even be forming an opinion on D'Angelo Russell yet, never mind focusing on Okafor who would not have been a good fit with Randle, who I think is going to be a perennial all-star in 3-4 seasons. D'Angelo Russell is a 19 year old floor player with the body of an adolescent who is trying to figure out how to play in a big boy league. Those are all GREAT things considering the enormous amount of GROWTH he has to look forward to with all his obvious skills. Clarkson was 22 last season and wasn't inserted into the lineup until the second half of the season and the difference between 19 and 22 is huge. I would hate to see us True Fans fall into the trap of 90% of Laker Nation by throwing in the towel for the Big Picture here. The Lakers are playing this right. The amount of patience required of us as fans is so much different than the past because the 2011 CBA combined with our huge payroll (that robbed us of any financial flexibilty whatsoever until the summer of 2014), an aging roster, Kobe's contract and the CP3 ordeal. Once Kobe's gone, they will come. Maybe not next season, but the financial flexibility and maturity of future star players is now in place, which is something we didn't have last season. This ship is definitely pointed in the right direction. The wins are important ONLY for the confidence of our young players, but losing a boatload of games could very well be more important to the future of this franchise. It could very well be Kobe's parting gift to us. Wins mihgt be important to an entitled fan base, but my middle finger is way up in the air to those who lack patience. I don't care what they think.

Ken, I have patience and even stated I like DAR, Randle, and Clarky in my Post. The only opinion I have formed is I just think Okafor will be the better Pro. I have never once said DAR would be a bust or stink. Yes he has the potential to be Good, maybe Great. I think you are over misreading what I am posting at times and should know by my past history I have plenty of patience. I really don't see what is wrong posting an opinion like, I think Okafor will be better. How's that bashing DAR?
