Tim Duncan to retire

To Kenny and everyone else, forget who the best ever's are for a second. I will turn the tables and just ask, who would your all-time starting 5 would be? That would probably show where most people's real thinking really is.
My perfect Starting 5 would be:
PG Magic Johnson
SG Michael Jordan - By a hair over Kobe. I cant have Kobe and Jordan both by putting one at SF, chemistry would stink.
SF Larry Bird - He can spread the floor by shooting 3's as LeBron cant. I would need 3 point shooter to be dominant, especially in today's game!
PF Karl Malone - He is a True PF, Duncan isn't, Duncan is really a Center.
C Kareem Abdul-Jabbar over Wilt, Russell or Shaq, Kareem could shoot FT's consistently. No Hack-a-Cap to worry about!
-With this lineup, I have 3 of the smartest/high Basketball IQ/clutch/kill throat players of all-time in Magic, Jordan, and Larry. This chemistry would work because Magic and Bird loved to pass and make people around them better. Jordan would get the majority of the shots! I have a Great 3 point shooter in Larry to spread the floor and match anyone with 3's when needed. I have a Center who is 7'2 so he can protect the rim and he has the most unstoppable shot in the history of the game = the Skyhook + he was a decent FT shooter. Magic would get out and run and feed guys like Jordan and Malone for dunks all day!

Kareem and Jordan's basketball I.Q.s were pretty formidable too, but I get your point.

The problem is that the "best" ever at their respective positions doesn't necessarily translate into the best "team."

Using the wine cellar approach, give me:

1966-67 Wilt Chamberlain
2002-03 Tim Duncan
2012-13 LeBron James
1986-87 Magic Johnson
1995-96 Michael Jordan

Offered up my opinion on a sports page that Barkley and/or K. Malone in their prime would have shut Duncan down . . and basically got called crazy :imok:

Thoughts?

Malone was a better Pure PF but Duncan was the better player and had the better resume. Duncan was 7'0 tall so he was a Center/PF. Barkley was too short to stop either consistently IMO but had the girth/strength to hang with either.

Yeah that is why I didn't have Jordan and Kobe both because of chemistry issues.

My "wine cellar approach" would be:
1970-71 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Lew Alcindor)
1996-97 Karl Malone
1985-86 Larry Bird
1986-87 Magic Johnson
1991-92 Michael Jordan

Had I chose Kobe, I would've chosen 2008-09 Kobe.

Wine cellar roster!?

:pissedkobe: Kobe - 81; 4 straight 50+ games - enough said
Wilt: anytime he says so
Elgin: '61-'62 = 61 Finals points
Magic @ point anytime
Karl Malone; best PF ever - Duncan not bad, but Malone would have his lunch and did a lot!

Yeah Malone is the perfect PF, Timmy is more of a Center IMO.
