I did a lot of numbers crunching but love doing this type of stuff. What I did was, during the Cubs 2016 WS Title run I combined the Stats of all the Cubs players and best pitchers = 13 games vs the Dodgers and Indians. Was interested to see in 13 games on the biggest stages (NLCS/WS) how great these players performed. 13 games is a pretty decent sample size and I came up with what the Cubs best lineup should be for their Championship team:
CF - Fowler = .281/3 HR/5 RBI/1 Stolen Base (bats Switch)
LF - Schwarber = .412/0 HR/2 RBI/0 Stolen bases (5 game sample in the WS)(bats Left)
3B - Bryant = .286/2 HR/5 RBI/1 Stolen Base (bats Right)
1B - Rizzo = .340/3 HR/10 RBI/2 Stolen Bases (bats Left)
SS - Russell = .245/3 HR/13 RBI/0 Stolen Bases (bats Right)
RF - Zobrist = .271/0 HR/3 RBI/0 Stolen Bases (bats Switch) (MVP of the WS)
2B - Baez = .231/1 HR/6 RBI/2 Stolen Bases (bats Right)
C- Contreras = .182/1 HR/3 RBI/0 Stolen Bases (bats Right)
P - Jake Arrieta = 2-1/2.29 ERA (Righty) (3 games Pitched in)
*If a DH is needed - David Ross = .300/1 HR/2 RBI/0 Stolen Bases (5 game sample, he played in 5 games)
*Mid Reliever/Closer - Montgomery = 1-0/1 Save/3.03 ERA (Lefty) (9 games Pitched in)
*Closer - Chapman = 2-0/1 Save/2.73 ERA (Lefty) (9 games Pitched in)
-I would put this lineup up against any team all-time in MLB history. The Infield Defense with Rizzo, Baez, Russell, Bryant, and Contreras is very solid. Fowler has a solid glove in CF as well. This team has several guys that bat Right or Left too, that is a huge advantage to have. The first 4 guys in this lineup batted .281 or above vs the Dodgers and Indians combined.
