Both Giants and Dodgers are Good IMO and it's early.

The NL and AL West divisions are stacked almost identically right now with teams at or around .500 . . the only teams left with single-digit losses are both in Chicago!

I know it's real early but through 25 games the Cubs haven't had any competition at all in the Division. About to be 19-6. Jake is pitching another shutout and they are up 6-0 through 7 Innings, that will put his record at 6-0. Cubs are kicking the crap out of the Pirates tonight. They have beat up on the Division so far.

And this:

Don Newcombe (1949-51, 1954-58)

The New Jersey native was the first black star pitcher in the majors, copping Rookie of the Year honors in 1949 (two years after Jackie Robinson’s debut) with a 17-8 record that ignited a terrific 112-48 record through his first eight years—missing two of those to military service. Newcombe’s run hit its apex in 1956 when he won both the NL MVP and Cy Young Award with a 27-7 record and 3.06 ERA; he thus became the first major leaguer ever to earn a MVP, Cy Young and Rookie of the Year award.

Newcombe’s ERA never dipped below 3.00 in part because he played in an intimate, live ballpark (Ebbets Field), but those conditions also enhanced his reputation as one of the best hitting pitchers in the game; he had a lifetime .271 batting average and hit 15 home runs, seven alone in the Dodgers’ championship season of 1955 when he also sported an outstanding .359 batting average.

In the postseason, Newcombe was a historic dud. In five World Series starts, he was 0-4 with an 8.59 ERA; he also lost the memorable 1950 regular season finale that gave Philadelphia’s “Whiz Kid” Phillies the pennant, and set up the New York Giants’ rally in the decisive game of the 1951 NL playoff, being removed for Ralph Branca—who would only face one batter: Bobby Thomson, who launched the “Shot Heard ‘Round the World” and won the pennant for the Giants. After losing yet again during the 1956 World Series, he physically took his anger out on a fan who called him a “choke.”

After 1956, Newcombe’s game fell apart and he rarely came close to returning to early career form, finishing out his time in the majors with Cincinnati and Cleveland. A battle with the bottle, which he would later overcome, didn’t help.

Cubs roll over the Nationals! Now 21-6 on the season. 7 game lead on the Cards already.

Cubs could win 110 games . . but it's all about health and execution in the Fall. Good to see them getting so much press, it has to be maddening to feel that they could have an historic season but still not get that elusive World Series victory. They're on the clock.

Dodgers at .500 through 30 games, SMH. But The Claw Clay 'Shaw continues to be the most dominant lefty since Randy Johnson and Tom Glavine. If only he could have some post-season success!

Cubs now 23-6, just rolling at this point. It's way too early to get too excited though but it's looking great so far!

Cubs are now 25-6! Who do they think they are the 1998 Yankees or something?

Cubs finally come back down to earth and get swept today in the doubleheader by a stinky Pads team. Still 25-8. Hard to believe they couldn't even muster up 1 run in the 2nd game. First time all season the Cubs have lost 2 in a row. They still have a sizable lead in the Division over the Pirates and Cards.

Anybody see how good Trayce Thompson been playing.

Imagine getting Klay down here somehow with Russell and Ingram...

It didn't take my Cubs long to get back on track, they destroyed the Pirates today to improve to 26-8 - best record in Baseball! 7.5 game lead over the Cards, 8 over the Pirates. Nice to have that cushion because it's a long season and anything can happen, like inuries, etc..
