MLB - the 7th Inning Stretch

Since the Dodgers climbed back into relevance during the Matt Kemp/Manny Ramirez/Joe Torre days, we've been waiting to make a big breakthrough. Last year was a nice run, but us fans are still disappointed with all the Kershaw years burned away with no titles. He's choked in the spotlight a few times and seems destined to be a regular-season Hall of Famer, but if we can squeeze two more productive seasons out of him, we may just give ourselves a chance to finally bring the title back to Tinseltown. This should be an interesting season.

The time off was good, I took a fishing trip with a friend as it has been warm here in Indy. It's 70 today! It was in the 60's over the weekend through Monday.

-This weather just reminded me of Baseball and the start of the Baseball Regular Season will be here in just over a month believe it or not.

-I am still proud of my Cubs and was reminiscing over the weekend while drinking beer and catching fish what they have accomplished the last 3 seasons. From 2015-2017, making 3 straight NLCS's, winning a WS in 2016, Bryant won NL League MVP in 2016, Arrieta won Cy Young in 2015. Not sure how we can top that from here? I look at this seasons Cubs coming up and I see a team that is a 90 win team and probably a Division Champion but not sure how far they can go in the Playoffs? We lost Arrieta but did sign Darvish, I like Arrieta better though. Our lineup still has Bryant, Rizzo, Zobrist, and Contreras but we had that last season and got waxed by the Dodgers in the NLCS 4-1.

-Our 2016 team still remains the 2nd best team record wise to win a WS over the last 30 seasons = 1988-2017 seasons. We were 103-58 and finished the deal. Only the 1998 Yankees were better over the last 30 seasons at 114-48.

-Take care Brethren, come Thursday the Basketball updates will return.

One more thing to add to this, I think the main reason why the Dodgers beat us 4-1 in the NLCS is because Maddon overused our Pitchers against the Nationals in the NLDS. Our Pitchers looked out of gas vs the Dodgers except for Jake in Game 4. It wasn't a typical Cubs series where the Pitching is solid. I think going to the NLCS 3 seasons in a row fatigued the team. That is really hard to do in Baseball to go that deep 3 years in a row + making the WS in that run too. I am hoping we re-charge our batteries and make another run. The Astros, Dodgers, Yankees, and Indians are all Very Good to Great teams so it will be tough to get back on top.

I have to head into work but was checking to see if we had any new Posts. To add to my other 2 Posts, I see a Yankees/Dodgers WS if I had to predict right now. I am curious to see where Jake Arrieta ends up. If he goes to the Yankees or Dodgers - whoever gets him would be the favored between these 2 teams. It's very tough to Repeat so I doubt the Astros get back. Yankees took them 7 games this past season.

Less than 3 weeks away from the Regular Season, cant wait. My 2016 WS Title as a fan of the Cubs was so special, I hope we can get another in 2018. Being a fan since 1984 I earned that one . We will win the Division again IMO but making 4 straight NLCS's and winning another WS will be tough. Even without my main man Jake Arrieta I do expect at least another Division Title. The Cubs lineup is stacked with Bryant, Rizzo, Contreras, Happ, Baez, and Russell. Darvish isn't Elite but Good, Lester isn't what he was 2 years ago but is still Good as well regarding Pitching. We will see? At least I have my Ring as a fan in 2016, makes things easier to watch. I still feel like I am playing with house money like last season because the Cubs won the WS in 2016. If they go more than 3 seasons without winning a WS than I will panic, it's all good for now though. The greatest franchise of all-time = the Yankees hasn't won the WS since 2009. Dodgers haven't won the WS since 1988. So the Cubs rule the roost in recent history compared to those teams and that is high praise.

Not only did my Cubs win it all in 2016 but they had the 2nd best record over the last 30 seasons to do so at 103-58. Only the 1998 Yankees had a better record. Since the 1988 Season, teams that have won it all with the best records have been the 1998 Yankees at 114-48 and 2016 Cubs at 103-58. I am going back 30 seasons baby when the Lakers and Magic Repeated. PLAY BALL!

Opening day is next Thursday March 29th. A full slate of games will be on! I am taking that day off and Friday off work also. My game plan is to pick up 3 dozen Hot Barbecue Wings from BW3's around noon and grab a case of Corona and watch Baseball all day next Thursday from 1230EST-Midnight. Cubs play at Miami - 1230EST on ESPN, Giants play at LA Dodgers - 710EST on ESPN (Bumgarner vs Kershaw).

Here are my picks for 2018
AL Division winners = Yankees, Astros, Indians
WildCard teams = RedSox, Angels
AL Champions = Yankees - @Kenny and Nuggs, yeah I see it happening!

NL Division winners = Dodgers, Nationals, Cubs of course - :MJdance:
WildCard teams = Diamondbacks, Cardinals
NL Champions = This is where Craig and Rev will love me :roflmao: Dodgers

WS Champions = This is where Craig and Rev will really love me :waaaaa: Dodgers finally do it with this core and beat the Yankees in the WS 4-2. They are just due and have been close for a while. To me the Cubs don't have the BullPen at this point to get back or win another WS. Losing Jake Arrieta isn't good either. The Cubs lineup is still lethal though with Bryant/Rizzo/Zobrist/Contreras, etc. so they will win their Division IMO. May even make it back to their 4th straight NLCS?

I'm gonna hold you to that 3Peat! We have really come up super short considering our HYPE and our real-life talent. Los Angeles sports fans are starving for a championship other than soccer or hockey and when we came up short last season it was just a worldwide slap in the face. If the Yanks are re-tooling and want to meet us in the Big Show, then maybe our Lakers are also ready to re-tool and meet the Celtics in yet another Finals matchup. It's what both the MLB and the NBA wants. Rams and Steelers next I guess.

Rev, I just think it's your time. You guys are due and have the most talent in the league. Cubs aren't as talented as the Dodgers overall when you factor in Pitching. I am just picking based on what I see. Of course Baseball has a lot of luck involved too so anything can happen in the Playoffs. Cubs got lucky to beat the Indians in 2016 IMO because when you fall down 3-1 that takes a miracle (everything going your way) to win any series. When the Cubs were down 3-1, Baseball experts had the Cubs at 10% to win that WS. Cleveland was already planning their parade :roflmao:

You guys just need 1 WS win with this core, you get that than the haters cant hate. Otherwise you guys will be known as the Utah Jazz of the 90's or Buffalo Bills of the 90's in this era. Very Good but could never win the big one to be Great. I am fortunate being a Cubs fan since 1984 that they finally won 1 in this era so anything else to me is gravy for now. I was relaxed last season watching and will be again this season. Kris Bryant got his ring and so did Jake before leaving. Those 2 guys are my favorite Cubs. I really liked Chapman too on that 2016 team. He was amazing and got a Ring too! I think it's your year Brethren but the pressure is mounting to close the deal. Good luck - I am pulling for you guys as my secondary team only behind the Cubs. Kershaw needs his Ring. The Dodgers remind me of the Peyton Manning Colts in the early to mid 2000's. They kept coming up short but finally won the SB. Kershaw is a lot like Manning, dominant in the Regular Season but in the Post Season shaky at times.

Baseball just 3 days away! Cubs on their quest to make a 4th straight NLCS and a 2nd WS win in 3 seasons. Cant wait. It's a long season but I love fucking opening day. I am off work Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The Cubs play early on Thursday, going by BW3's on Thursday and picking up 3 dozen Wings of Hot Barbecue and a dozen Caribbean Jerk is the new plan. I have a friend coming over to watch the games with me, he is a huge Yankees fan believe it or not. I already bought a case of Corona beer and I have an unopened 5th of Crown.

Thursday's schedule - key games:
Cubs at Marlins 1230ET
Yankees at BlueJays 330ET
Astros at Rangers 330ET
Giants at Dodgers 7ET

You guys will win it all this year IMO. I just have that feeling, a lot like when the Colts kept coming up short with awesome teams from 2002-2005. I knew in 2006 Manning would get it done. Kershaw is going to get it done and get his Ring. I hope Cubs win it and we could but Dodgers are due.

Here's my Predictions/Playoff bracket seedings:

NL
#1 Dodgers
#2 Nationals
#3 Cubs
#4 Cards - Didn't get in last season, wont happen 2 seasons in a row.
#5 I am going to switch and go Mets, I think they get in over DBacks. I have always had a liking to the Mets as a fan going way back to the Gooden days but that has nothing to do with it. Mets starting Pitching looks scary Great on paper! Usually some new teams get in the next season too. Mets didn't get in last season so they will this season IMO.

Results:
-Mets over Cards in the WildCard
-Dodgers over Mets 3-1 (NLDS)
-Cubs over Nationals 3-1 (NLDS), I think Nats choke again :roflmao:
-Dodgers over Cubs 4-2 (NLCS), this will be much more competitive than last seasons 4-1 thumping. Losing Arrieta sucks but I have a feeling the Cubs are going to be a Top 3 Offensive team this season. Our Lineup is unreal. Not a big fan of Darvish, he isn't Arrieta but he is Good. To me the Dodgers still have the better overall Roster = Pitching + Offense combined over the Cubs so sadly I see LA beating us again.

AL
#1 Yankees
#2 Astros
#3 Indians
#4 RedSox
#5 Angels - My new team in the AL, Trout gets in!

Results:
-RedSox over Angels in the WildCard
-Yankees over RedSox 3-1 (ALDS)
-Astros over Indians 3-1 (ALDS)
-Yankees over Astros 4-3 (ALCS)

World Series = Dodgers over Yankees 4-2
