Halfway through the season and my Cubs are 40-41, 3 games back of the Brewers in the NL Central who are 44-39. This is not what I envisioned this season. After winning 103 games and winning the WS this is really kind of stunning. I knew the Cubs wouldn't duplicate last season's 103-58 record but I thought they could still win 90 Games at worse. Yeah I know, July is just getting started so I still have patience but if the Cubs are still .500 by the end of July that isn't good at all. The Astros and Dodgers are by far and away the 2 best teams in Baseball so far IMO.

My mid season Cubs grades are basically all C's as I am just watching an Average team so far in 2017 - They are not Bad but not Good either. The Starting Rotation, Bullpen, and Hitting all are part of the blame. Just inconsistent:
Starting Pitching = C
Bullpen = C
Hitting = C
Manager (Maddon) = C
-Pretty simple grading so far.

Cubs are up 2-0 so far in the 3rd Inning over the Reds today. A win gets them back to .500 at 41-41. It will be much needed. All right I am out for a while, gonna watch this Cubs game and grab a beer. I have Posted a lot over the last hour so tackling it all!

Cubs now up 4-0 in the 6th Inning, Jake with a 1 Hitter so far. This is much needed, just need to hold the lead.

Cubs win, Jake gets the win. Great stuff! Starting from ground zero at .500 (41-41), time to start playing better as it is July. I wish the Lakers could go 41-41 actually :goofylaf:

Cubs just got destroyed by the Brew Crew, man this is frustrating. 4.5 games out of the Central now and back below .500 at 42-43. Brewers are 48-40. We better get our shit together or we will be at home watching the Playoffs. Opposing teams fans have to be loving this watching the Champs struggle, I don't blame them because if the Cubs don't make the Playoffs, teams wont have to deal with them. I am not panicking yet but today was tough to watch - PATIENCE. Having said that we are playing with house money because we won the WS last season. To keep things in perspective, Mets haven't won it since 1986, Dodgers 1988, Yankees 2009, and Nats have never won it - all Great franchises. Nats have had loaded teams over the last 5 years and lose every year. Indians haven't won since 1948. Ok, now I feel better "lol4:

108 years ain't bad, 3Peat. The goat got his can to chew on and Bartman can mingle now. But yeah the Cubbies are sufferin like succotash. The MLB season is long, so nothing is over yet. My Dodgers have been the hottest thing in beisbol the last few weeks but us Bums fans have been used to disappointment so we'll enjoy the moment and hope the squad can keep it focused in the postseason.

108 years is the best streak of all-times :roflmao: Yeah the Goat is chewing his can and Bartman now can be seen in public without getting eggs thrown at him :roflmao: I am just glad my Cubs aren't the laughing stock of the league now and have a WS Title in this era. Here are some telling droughts for popular great franchises:

1. Indians 1948 - Not a great franchise but they were in the WS last year and have a huge drought!
2. Mets 1986 - Have had a lot of chances since 86 but have failed!
3. Dodgers 1988 - Rev you are going on 30 years
4. Yankees 2009 - The Title Masters with 27, haven't won though in 8 years - that is a 2 term Presidential election!

It takes a lot of luck and a ton of things have to go your way to win a WS. If the Cubs don't make the Postseason I will root for the Dodgers, they have been close for a while and since my buddies Rev, Craig, and Tate love the Dodgers I will root for them if Cubs aren't in it. TrueFanSam was a Dodgers fan as well.

Dodgers are really picking up steam now, widening their lead in the NL West by sweeping the D-bags :lol: . Still lots of baseball to be played, but we are looking balanced and very focused.

Satchel Paige signed his first contract with the Cleveland Indians on July 7, 1948, at the age of 42 years old. As of 1948, he had been a pro ballplayer in the Negro Leagues for over two decades, playing for dozens of teams across the United States, but everywhere dazzling his opponents with a mighty array of pitches - the hard fastball, the devastating curveball, and the tricky "hesitation pitch." No one had ever debuted in Major League Baseball at the age of 42 before - but Satchel Paige was, as ever, unlike anyone else. And he proved he was the farthest thing from a novelty act, winning his first game in the majors only eight days after his signing by coming on in relief to help the Indians beat the Philadelphia Athletics. His season statistics for 1948 were excellent, as he completed a 6-1 record in 21 games with an earned run average of 2.48. He also received a World Series ring for his role in the Indians' 4-2 series victory against the Boston Braves that October.

HistoryMaker Dennis Biddle, a Negro League player during the 1950s, recalls the legend that was Satchel Paige. "Satchel played on over two hundred different teams, and he got his name because whatever team would offer him the money, he picked his satchel up and he went, so he got the name of Satchel Paige. Actually, LeRoy lost money by going to the Major Leagues because he was getting more money barnstorming around the country. People wanted to see him. They heard about him, read about him--the greatest pitcher ever lived, so they would come out just to see him play."

10-0 Pirates in the 1st inning. Lester just had the worse 1st Inning I think I have ever seen for a Pitcher! I am starting to believe the Cubs don't have it this season. Yeah still a long way to go but they haven't shown any signs of being even a Good team this season, not close to being Very Good or Great. They are an Average team this season at 43-45 at the All-Star break (will be after losing today), not even .500! It's the Brewers Division to lose going into the break regarding the NL Central. Still pretty happy as of now as a fan though, just won the WS, broke all the silly jinxes, and have had a GREAT 2 year run with making the 2015 NLCS and winning the WS last season. Sometimes it just isn't your year :roflmao: I think it's the Dodgers year to do it, I just think with the Cubs and Cards down a bit the door is wide open. The Nats always choke and the Dodgers beat them last season in the Playoffs. The Astros have played Great all season but they are new to the scene being a contender. In closing, yeah we are still in July and there is a long way to go so things could look different when September rolls around? But we are at the All-Star break after tonight, so I have a lot of criteria to go on here with how teams look.

To add to this Post the Dodgers don't even have to deal with the Giants either. They are already out of it. Door is wide open for LA!

If you guys didn't know, the All-Star Game no longer determines HFA. It's the team with the best record. Dodgers are 61-29, Astros 60-29 going into the break. With this rule change I hope both teams push each other until the end of September for best record. My Cubs went 103-58 and had the best record last season but because of the rule last season, Indians got HFA as the AL won the All-Star Game. Cubs still won in 7 so I guess they gave the MLB and LeBron this :anfinger:

I know I speak for all Dodger fans when I say we didn't forsee this amazing run over the last several weeks. We're playing like .800 ball. Kind of early to peak, but it gives us some breathing room vs. the division and WE ACTUALLY CAUGHT THE ASTROS!!

As for the Cubbies, well -- it's an accurate barometer of how fickle each baseball season is. A couple years ago, the mighty SF Giants and the dangerous Royals went 7 games, with Ace Bumgardener looking all-world. Now the Gnats are in the cellar - no thanks to an irresponsible MadBum - and my Dodgers just swept the Royals.

Viva Beisbol!
