MLB - the 7th Inning Stretch

Glad to see your Cubbies making that playoff push, 3Peat! It looks like you, Rev, Nuggz and I will all be IN, while Jesus's Mets will be OUT! "lol4:

As for my always injured Mix 'n Match Bronx Bombers, they set a major league record for home runs in a calendar month with 74 HOME RUNS in August! To put that in perspective, the prior record was 58! Wow!!

In yesterday's 4-3 extra inning game against the A's at Yankee Stadium, the Yankees' 3 best hitters, all right handed hitters, hit 4 solo home runs to win the game, 2 by El Gary Sanchez, 1 by "All Rise" Aaron Judge and the walk off game winner by DJ "Machine" LeMahieu. No disrespect to Sasha Vujacic intended! :roflmao:

The Yankees also barely own the best record in baseball. Considering the rash of ongoing injuries (they have never been fully healthy all season) and the mediocre starting pitching, Aaron Boone should be a shoo-in for Manager of the Year. The fact that they're on pace to win 105 games with only 25 games to go in the regular season is mind blowing.
I LOVE BASKETBALL! GO LAKERS! #18 COMIN' UP STRONG!!! TOO EASY, JUST WAAAAY TOO EASY!!!!! NEXT! :rollyellow:

I think the Cubs make it as a wildcard but I am fine with that. We would play the Nats if so as of now. Cubs going 5 years in a row is starting to spoil me lol. To Kenny, Nuggs, and Rev you guys are easily in :roflmao: . I still think the Astros are going to be a bitch to beat in the playoffs. Verlander pitched a no hitter today.

The Cubs start a tough 4 game road series tonight at the BrewCrew. The Cubs currently are in complete control of that final wildcard spot at 75-63, Brewers are at 71-67 = 4 games back. The D-Backs are 3 games back at 73-67 and the Phillies are 3.5 back at 72-67 of the Cubs.

Heading into September 6th, this is the Cubs situation:

The NL Central standings are a bit dicey:
Cards 79-61
Cubs 76-63 (2.5 back)
-Cubs are 2.5 back and the Cards have been on fire for about a month now.

Wildcard standings: (2 teams get in as Wildcards)
Nats 78-61
Cubs 76-63 (2 back)

D-Backs 73-67 (5.5 back)
Phillies 72-67 (6 back)
Brewers 71-68 (7 back)
-Cubs look safe here regarding making the playoffs. The Cubs are in control of that final Wildcard spot. Cubs had a big road win at the Brewers last night.

The NL playoff picture looks like this as of September 12th:

Dodgers are 95-53 = the #1 seed, winning the West
Braves are 91-57 = the #2 seed, winning the East
Cards are 82-64 = the #3 seed, winning the Central
Nats are 81-64 = the 1st Wildcard spot
Cubs and Brewers are tied for the final Wildcard spot at 78-68.

If anyone is wondering, if the Cubs and Brewers end up with the same record, they will play 1 game to determine who makes the playoffs. The huge breaking news is, Yelich is out for the season with a broken kneecap. Huge loss for the BrewCrew.

The full NL playoff picture looks like this heading into September 14th:

NL West leader = Dodgers at 96-53 #1
NL East leader = Braves at 92-57 (4 back for HFA) #2
NL Central leader = Cards at 83-64 (12 back for HFA) #3

Wildcard race, top 2 teams get in:
Nats are 81-65 = 4th spot
Cubs are 79-68 = 5th spot (2.5 back of the Nats)
Brewers are 78-69 (1 back of the Cubs for final spot)
Phillies are 76-70 (2.5 back of the Cubs for final spot)

-Thoughts on who gets in? Who wins the NL? @Rev, do you think it is the Dodgers time finally? Are the Braves really this good? Will the Cubs hold off the Brewers and Phillies to get into the playoffs?

Really can't say, I'm trying not to overthink it. We have the bats and we definitely have the pitching and I don't see any NL squad beating us 4 out of 7. The WS, however, has been the unkindest cut for us as AL teams have shanked us two years straight. I know the guys are focused and hungry - it's up to the fates to determine if my boys in Blue can bring a title back to LA for the first time in 31 years :imok:

It was fun while it lasted. My greatest 5 seasons as a Baseball fan just happened and it was a blur. Now it looks over as the Cubs look like they will miss the playoffs in 2019. Only 8 games left for the Cubs and the Cards have a 5 game lead in the NL Central over the Cubs after beating them two times in a row. Brewers now have a 1.5 game lead for the final wildcard spot over the Cubs and play cupcakes the rest of the season. It is what it is! Here is a look at the last 5 seasons in Chicago Cubs history:

2015 = 97-65, WC spot, lost in the NLCS
2016 = 103-58, won the WS, (won the NL Central and NL Pennant)
2017 = 92-70, lost in the NLCS (won the NL Central)
2018 = 96-67, WC spot, lost in WC playoff game
2019 = 82-72, we look like we are out of gas with 8 games left
Totals: 470-332 Regular Season record (58.6% winnings) = very good

-Individual awards/notable moments
@Joe Maddon won the NL Manager of the Year in 2015
@Jake Arrietta won the NL Cy Young in 2015
@Kris Bryant won the NL Rookie of the Year in 2015
@Kris Bryant won the NL League MVP in 2016
@Ben Zobrist won the WS MVP in 2016
@Theo Epstein named Sporting News Executive of the Year in 2016
@Aroldis Chapman was the winning Pitcher in Game 7 of the 2016 WS

:kingclaphands:

-To Kenny and Nuggs good luck to your Yankees in the 2019 playoffs. To Rev and Craig good luck to your Dodgers in the 2019 playoffs. Unless my Cubs make a miraculous run in the last 8 games, the season is over for me.

"St. Louis Cardinals beat writer Derrick Goold performed CPR on a man in distress Sunday in the Chicago Cubsdugout in St. Louis, helping to save his life.

The Cubs were about to announce that manager Joe Maddon would not be returning to the team, but there was a delay. That was because videographer Mike Flanary, 64, had collapsed and briefly did not have a pulse.

Goold, who works for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, performed CPR on Flanary before Cubs training staff and emergency medical personnel took over."

_________

"The Houston Astros head into the postseason as the consensus favorites to win the World Series.

The Astros are around +200 to win the World Series at sportsbooks around the nation. The Los Angeles Dodgers are not far behind at +250, followed by the New York Yankees at +400.

Caesars Sportsbook has the Dodgers as the favorites, and at DraftKings sportsbooks, the majority of which are located on the East Coast, more money has bet on Yankees to win the World Series than has been bet on any other team."

The A's have a one-game chance to bring their scrappy talents to the true post-season by laying an "L" on the Rays on Wednesday. The way this team continues to crank out big wins against powerful opponents is probably the most under-rated story in the AL.

Your Cubs will be back in the mix soon, 3Peat. Baseball is funny - look how long I've been waiting for a Dodgers title, and through the entire Kershaw era we've come so close we're ready to scream. This is the most prolific Dodger squad since the 80s - we have to make ot happen this year.

I know Rev but was feeling depressed so I made my own Cubs thread to celebrate the last 5 seasons :waaaaa: . I would really like to see the Dodgers win it all. You and Craig both have waited a long time for a championship. I was so happy after the Cubs won it in 2016. I can't even put it into words. It was just priceless. The Astros are going to be a bitch to beat though, Yankees as well.

ESPN LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers mowed through the regular season with a franchise-record 106 victories and stand as favorites to reach the World Series for a third consecutive fall. They trailed only the Houston Astros in run differential, led the National League in OPS and paced the entire sport in ERA.

"Top to bottom," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said, "it's the best team we've had."

Roberts mentioned the stars in the rotation and the general versatility of the roster as reasons he believes this group might possess the best opportunity to capture the franchise's first World Series championship since 1988. Given the regular-season success, Roberts believes "we have a chance to be the best team in Dodgers history."

"Our only goal is to win a championship," Roberts said. "The fans deserve it, the players deserve it, and we are equipped to accomplish that goal."

I hear that, the Dodgers have been very good this decade, all that is missing is that WS Title for this core group. Win it all and then everything is gravy after that.
