Best player ever in your state to play in the Pro's?

Best player ever in your state to play in the Pro's?

Postby 3Peatkb24 » Mon Feb 01, 2016 2:00 am

I came up with this topic because of Tate and I doing lists of greatest players in our cities we live in. Imagine if you could just only choose 1 player as the greatest in the state you live in, who would you choose? I choose Peyton Manning but it's barely over Reggie Miller. Peyton won a Championship and went through Ray Lewis and Tom Brady to get it. Reggie unfortunately had to face Michael Jordan lead teams and then when he got the Finals had to face Shaq and Kobe so he never got a Ring. It's still so close between those 2 that you could almost flip a coin. In the end I have to go Peyton though just based on the Championship and 4 MVP's he won here.
Indiana - Peyton Manning
-here's my opinion on a few others:
Utah - Karl Malone
Oklahoma - Kevin Durant
Louisiana - Drew Brees
-Ok try and choose in Ohio between Jim Brown and LeBron James? How about California! - Magic and Kobe, Wayne Gretzky even, Joe Montana and Jerry Rice. You can only choose 1! Ken Joe Montana or Magic Johnson or even Kobe :waaaaa:

Texas would be another state that would be tough to choose from. Geez - Duncan, Dirk, the Admiral, Roger Staubach, Dorsett, Emmit Smith, Yao Ming, Hakeem....

Add-0ns for Cali - Bo Jackson, Kershaw, Trout, Nolan Ryan....

I know I love this topic because it's extremely tough to choose just 1 player from a state out of all the sports. Texas is really tough!! Because I love the Lakers it would be between Magic and Kobe for me regarding California. That is a toss up. Ken could say Montana or Rice though because both are arguably the best ever at their position much like Magic and Kobe. Gretzky's greatest days were really in Edmonton but he still played for the Kings.

We will go:
*California - Kobe Bryant, runner up Magic Johnson. Joe Montana could easily be #1 though IMO. Jerry Rice is another option as well but the greatest QB of all-time should be rated higher than the greatest WR. QB is the most important position on the field, Montana won 2 SB's without Rice.
*Indiana - Peyton Manning, runner up Reggie Miller.
*Texas - Tim Duncan, runner up Emmitt Smith - has to be Smith in 2nd because he is all-time leading Rusher.
*Ohio - Jim Brown, runner up LeBron James.
*Utah - Karl Malone, runner up John Stockton.
*Oklahoma - Kevin Durant, runner up Russell Westbrook - they don't have a lot of other options :waaaaa:
*Illinois - Michael Jordan, runner up Walter Payton. I was thinking Ernie Banks but Payton has to be runner up.
*New York - Babe Ruth, runner up Lawrence Taylor.
Many more to go, not sure yet on the others??

NY - Derek Jeter, Reggie Jackson also, Mantle, Broadway Joe, Willis Reed, Clyde, Melo....

None of those guys in NY could carry Babe Ruth's jockstrap or his Beers and Hotdogs :roflmao: Mantle was Great but nobody is the Babe!

Kenny will probably destroy me for this but Jeter is more like Dwyane Wade than he is Kobe. Jeter never won an MVP but won several Championships like Wade has and both have been Great. So that really isn't a dis but Jeter isn't near the best Yankee of all-time and actually Wade is the best Miami Heat player of all-time which is funny. Wade would get the nod over LeBron because he has been there much longer. LeBron is Cleveland's guy. Jeter isn't near the greatest Yankee of all-time, Babe and Mantle both rank higher IMO. Rivera even has an argument as being a better Yankee.

I ran into The Glove a couple weeks ago at a lounge spot in Oakland. He was talking with a couple friends about his son going pro. That's the second time I've met him . . he of course graduated from Skyline HS in Oakland, same HS Miles graduated from last year.

Loved the Glove's Defense. He was a Great player! Got a Ring with Miami too in 2006. He pissed me off in 2004 though LOL, but I forgive.

The state I am in now!? Colorado.......hhhmmmmmmmm

David Thompson, Alex English, Bobby Jones, Carmelo Anthony come to mind for bball

Broncos best would include: Shannon Sharpe, Floyd Little, Rod Smith, Terrell Davis, John Elway

Baseball: Todd Helton, Matt Holliday

Hockey: Joe Sakic, Patrick Roy

plus Jack Dempsey, Amy Van Dyken

I vote a tie between Jack Dempsey and Floyd Little

Not saying Jeter was the best Yankee ever (actually I can't stand the Yankees). I was just listing candidates. Mr October was the best Yankee for me. Thurman Munson, Joe DiMaggio and Lou Gehrig were favorites as well.

I know, no bigge. They were all Great, this is a fun topic actually! Regarding the jockstraps, that stinks. I guess the players back in the 20's and 30's couldn't hold his Beers and Hotdogs then :waaaaa:

When you look at players like Coop, Happy Hairston, Rambis, Artest, LO, etc, though they may not fill up the stat sheet, they are vital to a team's success. Looking around the NBA, you see guys like Trevor Ariza, Harrison Barnes, Tony Allen, Manu Ginobili, Taj Gibson, Nicolas Batum, that make a huge difference in their teams game.

Bernie Williams, Bucky Dent, Mickey Rivers, Willie Randolph, Paul Oneal, were just as important to their teams as the bonafide stars.

Role players have been really huge lately in the NBA. Look at what Jason Terry did against the Heat and what Iggy did vs the Cavs last season.
