CP3 (Failed) trade revisited 4 years later

Postby Lakers4Life » Mon Jan 18, 2016 11:17 pm

Here's the package the NBA rejected from the Lakers:

Hornets get:
Goran Dragic
Kevin Martin
Luis Scola
New York's 2012 1st-round pick

Lakers get: Chris Paul (Rockets get: Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom)

Stern ultimately accepted this deal from the Clippers:

Hornets get:
Eric Gordon
Chris Kaman
Al-Farouq Aminu
Minnesota's 2012 1st-round pick

Clippers get: Chris Paul, two 2nd-round picks

They took an obvious worse deal to fuck The Lakers (& at the same time making the Slippers contenders)

WE GOT STERNED!!!

and yet in 4 full seasons with CP3, not even a sniff at a Title chance as in not even 1 Final 4! 2012-2015 and they have no Playoff success to show for it and they aren't making it to the Conference Finals this season either with the Warriors, Spurs, and Thunder in the way unless 1 of those teams suffer a major injury. Hell even the Rockets have made a Final 4 with Howard :waaaaa:

I posted this on my FB Sports Page and was told to "get over it" because "Stern didn't void the deal, the owners did". The guy's a Kleenex Suns, New York Football Giants and Flatlanta Braves fan. GTFOH!!! :Nutskick:

Let me "Mister steal their girl" and then force them to watch me de-flower her every orifice 82+ games a year (since they live right down the hall) like the dippers).

It's easy for non-Laker fans to say "get over it"

Interesting theory. But The Laker deal was sweeter than the Slipper's deal.

Re-read your story

...."Even if he could get a better deal, which he eventually did from the Clippers"

(This quote was taken from your story)

So obviously there was a question about that

A lot of people just hover and don't Post but I am cool with that. We still have our few in here that Post quite a bit like you, Craig, Rev, Nuggs, Robert, and myself. Do I wish people would post more, YES but if they don't it's no big deal. When I first joined ESPN back in early 2009 I used to hover over sites a lot and just read what was being posted on Basketball (Lakers) and Football (Colts) Threads. I really didn't start posting a lot until I got comfortable with you guys over at Hollinger's during our 2010 Playoff run. The problem with Tate and myself is, he thinks I always try to bait him into a debate regarding lists and who is better than who, etc. when that is far from the truth. To me when him and I go at it, it's just fun to me and it kills my boredom when I get bored surfing the net. I don't bait anyone, I just Post what I believe to be truth and try to back things up with as many facts as possible. I usually explain why in detail why I think a team was better than another or player was better than another as you guys know by reading my stuff. I am probably the reason why he doesn't Post as much but it is what it is.

Why do you think that The Lakers organization didn't/haven't made a big deal about:

#1. Getting screwed by the commissioner in an already agreed trade for CP3?

#2. A CBA that is obviously made to screw with our Championship model?

#3. Forced to pay millions upon millions of dollars to the smaller market teams (market sharing) ?

Would any of this - in either scenario - have prevented the Warriors from ascending to their place at the top? Would the talented-but-rudderless Chris Paul and the adequate-but-disappointing Dwight Howard have teamed to become enough of a force to realistically challenge the Spurs, Grizzlies and Thunder? Or was all of this more of a blessing-in-disguise for the Lakers - despite the prolonged hardship it and the lockout/CBA imposed on our franchise? Injuries - most significantly Kobe's - would have de-railed the plan anyway, so it's hard to tell what long-term good a CP3/Dwight/Kobe team would have experienced. Clarkson, Randle, Russell, Nance, Williams - which of them, if not all, would be wearing different jerseys right now? Would Laker fans have learned to cheer and root for Chris and Dwight? Would qualifying for the playoffs as a 5th seed with no realistic shot at the Finals be good enough for Laker Nation?
