Are you ready for some football?

Are you ready for some football?

Postby lakerevolution » Sun Aug 04, 2019 12:30 am

New season, new players, new cities. My Oakland Raiders bought a one-year extension to finish off their 59-year run as the renegade Al Davis AFL franchise before relocating to the sinful city of Las Vegas . . thanks to his son.

I'm heartbroken, but you can't stop the future.

Per Wikipedia:

"RingCentral Coliseum is a multi-purpose stadium in Oakland, California, United States, which is home to the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League (NFL). The stadium, historically and generically known as the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum (or Oakland Coliseum for short), opened in 1966 and is the only remaining stadium in the United States that is shared by professional football and baseball teams.

The Oakland Raiders are a professional American football franchise based in Oakland, California. The Raiders compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league's American Football Conference (AFC) West division. Founded on January 30, 1960, they played their first regular season game on September 11, 1960, as a charter member of the American Football League (AFL) which merged with the NFL in 1970."

2019 PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES:

1. Gil Brandt
2. Johnny Robinson
3. Kevin Mawae
4. Pat Bowlen
5. Ty Law
6. Ed Reed
7, Champ Bailey
8. Tony Gonzalez

CANTON, OHIO — The Pro Football Hall of Fame will expand the number of potential inductees to 20 in 2020 as part of the NFL’s celebration of its 100th season.

Calling it a centennial class, hall President David Baker said Friday five modern-day players, 10 seniors, three contributors and two coaches could be elected next year. The modern-day group would be decided by the 48 selection committee voters, as always, on the day before the Super Bowl in February.

Part of that modern-day group could be former Steelers safety Troy Polamalu, whose first year of Hall of Fame eligibility happens to be 2020. Other possibles are Reggie Wayne, Patrick Willis, John Lynch, Steve Atwater, Isaac Bruce, Ken Anderson, Don Coryell, Tom Flores, Paul Tagliabue, Drew Pearson, Art Modell, Steve Sabol, Sterling Sharpe and Raiders legend Cliff Branch -- who just passed away today, a few days short of his 71st birthday.

Flip the coin, gentlemen. A new season awaits!

RIP to Cliff Branch, he was a Raider great. I am expecting huge things from the Indianapolis Colts this season. Andrew Luck is coming off of a season where he threw for 39 TD's and 4500 Yards. The Colts went 10-6 in the 2018 season and won a playoff game. Sky is the limit in 2019.

Over the last 20 seasons (1999-2018) the Colts have:
-the 2nd most regular wins of any franchise
-have been to 10 Elite 8's
-have been to 4 Final 4's
-have been to 2 SB's
-have won a SB in Feb of 2007

Time to win another SB!

Cliff Branch was so fast that he would give Deion and Bo a run for their money in a 40 yard dash. If you put them all in their primes at 27 years old.

I got to watch him at CU when I was in college at the same time. We played in pickup games and covering him was always a losing sprint. He could also leap like nobody's business!

Pre-season is pretty meaningless but glad football is back. Colts at Bills tonight.

Colts resume since moving to Indianapolis in 1984:

-12 Divisional Round appearances (Elite 8's) = 1987, 1995, 1999, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2013, 2014, 2018 seasons

-5 AFC Title Game appearances (Final 4's) = 1995, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2014 seasons

-2 SB appearances/Conference Titles = 2006, 2009 seasons

-1 SB Title = February of 2007, (2006 season) where the great Prince performed at halftime in the rain!

-The Indianapolis Colts players that have made the ring of honor are in order Bill Brooks, Chris Hinton, Jim Harbaugh, Marvin Harrison, Edgerrin James, Eric Dickerson, Marshall Faulk, Jeff Saturday, Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne, Dwight Freeney.

-Manning is in bold because Irsay retired the #18 jersey so nobody can never wear it again.

Stephen A. is WEARING OUT Eric Reid for the latter's tweets and statements towards Jay-Z's NFL deal. Calling Jay-Z's move a "money grab" is stupid and a show of jealousy. Calling near-billionaire Jay-Z (also known as Shawn Carter ;) ) a "sellout" for making a deal with the NFL is pretty hypocritical coming from a current player who is still accepting game checks from the League. What Jay-Z has done and is still doing for thousands of African-Americans over the course of his over-20 year entertainment career, from employment opportunities to giving millions to inner-city programs to helping fight the recidivism in the prison industry, has been huge and completely out of Eric Reid's ability to touch. Colin Kaepernick and whoever his girlfriend is should stay off twitter as well - kneeling is great, but what Jay-Z plans to do goes beyond symbolic protest and paves a way for direct ownership and control of more of the multi-billion dollar sports entertainment industry.

Can't knock the hustle.

Raiders looked really sharp against the unorganized Kyler Murray-led Cardinals, and Derek Carr's backups played very well to jump out to a big lead. Mike Glennon looked great as Carr's replacement and Murray's backup Brett Hundley helped the Cards mount a near-comeback to make the score look a lot closer than the game really was. I'm still in my mixed feelings about the Raiders leaving to Vegas, but the team looked nice on all sides of the ball and with the addition of Antonio Brown and a couple other injured players, it should be a very competitive season for the Silver and Black.

Ok you guys are waiting to hear about Luck's foot. Some Colts fans are worried I am not. He will be fine. He doesn't care for training camp and rarely plays in pre-season. He is just concerned about getting ready for those super Chargers on opening day. Pre-season is so meaningless IMO. Most Fans here in Indy take it serious, I do not.

Sorry to hear about Andrew Luck retiring, 3Peat. He should have been an all-time great, but instead ran into a string, of well, bad luck.

WOWWW!!! The Stanford Sasquatch just couldn't take the pounding of an NFL QB career. Huge guy, tough guy, brilliantly intelligent player . . smart enough to make a decision for his future health. The Brisett Era has begun! (I don't think he'll be around too long either) This Colts team is solid, they just need a new leader to replace Luck. Tough loss, what a shocker.

Yeah I am in a bit of shock this morning, disbelief I guess one could call it. The timing of his retirement was just shocking. I did not see this coming in a million years. I loved what Andrew brought to the team but mentally and physically he just did not have it anymore from what I have been reading. With him I always felt like we had a chance at a SB, same feeling I had with Peyton. Now who knows how the Colts will perform? Andrew will go down as a very good QB in Colts history but not great like Peyton. His 53-33 regular season record is very good, playoff record was 4-4 = good considering his 4 losses, the Colts were huge underdogs in those games. Goes to show people, nothing in life is a guarantee. Peyton playing 13 seasons here in Indy and never missing a start just spoiled people around here. The SB win and 4 League MVP's, etc by Peyton. Andrew had that potential but did not live up to it.

I guess it is time to find out what Jacoby Brissett is made of because our GM has put together a solid team.

Give me 2012 Kap, I will take it. He has been out of the game to long to be good anymore IMO. Kap was very good/borderline great in 2012 and 2013. Once you have been out of the game for more than 2 years than it is over. We will roll with Brissett and see what happens. He isn't Luck where Luck draws guys offsides to win games or throws into double coverage to Hilton on a long pass but if he can become a great game manager I will take it. The key will be, how good will the defense be? It looks good on paper.

Watching this crazy heartbreaker of a game for a USC fan but probably the BEST game of Andrew Luck's entire football career. Oct 29th, 2011 at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
Tons of crazy game-changing and controversial calls both ways and after 3 OVERTIMES the Cardinal outlasts the Trojans 56-48. Brent Musberger on the call. Classic. Luck threw a pick-6 late in the fourth quarter but came right back and led a drive to tie the game with :38 seconds. Strange to think less than 8 years after this game he'd be a retired NFL star. Maybe he'll come back in a few years and lead the Las Vegas Raiders to a title :roflmao:
